Hey everyone! I wanted to make a topic to talk about fanfiction. (Don’t give me that look.) Here I wanted to discuss what you guys think about writing it and what makes a good fanfic. I know, I knowww. Fanfiction has so much potential though – it is our job as writers to put flesh on those bones and GIVE IT POTENTIAL! And of course, you can post fanfic here to be read/find beta readers. I’m currently writing an Artemis Fowl fanfic and so will prob post that later. Tag people you know!

@scripter-of-kingdoms Ahahah my first story was a fanfic…I think that fanfic is great for beginning writers because all the characters are already there, you can just practice plot and other things. I had ideas for fics too, ahhh, but then I started writing OG stuff… ngl I do find fanfics a bit cringe tho but if you write no judgement because I did too….  But good quality fanfic is hard to find! I say go for it!

Lately, it's been on my brain

@devastate-lasting Thanks for the advice! I do find fanfic kinda fun to write tho.. for me, it’s like me being in the story when I put my charries in it. I agree tho, I have some old fanfic that I wrote and looking back on it is just really, really sad.  I’ll try my best to make good quality fanfic. XD

            @scripter-of-kingdoms

When I was eight years old, I wrote a literal SERIES of novels about the characters and world of Mario Super Sluggers (if you know what very old game I am speaking of). I think I wrote about six 200-page novels in composition notebooks I bought from Dollar Tree, lol. Back when my dad told me one day I would want to type my stories and I told him NO I WILL ALWAYS HANDWRITE. Needless to say, he turned out to be very accurate, as I never handwrite anymore except sometimes to make small notes for my WIPs.

Anyways. I was SO proud of those stories, and to be honest I still am in a weird sort of way. It’s just ’cause they were the first books I wrote that I was super passionate about, because most of the time when I first started writing I would begin a project and toss it away after the first three chapters. Although yes, the book series was EXTREMELY corny, I still see them as a major turning point in my writing life because they taught me the most important thing: You’ve got to be passionate about what you write. I had so much fun with those stories. If you wanna hear more about them let me know, but I don’t wanna ramble about something so stupid since probably no one wants to hear about it. 😂

@joy-caroline No way! That’s so cool! XDDD I’ve written STORIES UPON STORIES about the world and characters of Prodigy. As in the Prodigy Math Game. XD I used my own and my friends’ characters in the stories and made up new plotlines… and some of them were actually good? There was this one that I was really proud of and I loved writing it. Maybe I’ll post it if anyone’s interested.

I think that that’s great you did that! I’d be interested in hearing more about those! XD

                @scripter-of-kingdoms

Lol! Well as @devastate-lasting said fanfiction is a good place to start if you’re just beginning your writing journey. I’d love to read yours. I think my mom kept all my old stories so maybe if I asked her she’d have them and I could put up a snippet. 😂

The book series I wrote was called Adventures on the Island. There were multiple POVs, but I wrote in Princess Peach’s POV most often because she was my favorite mario character. If I remember correctly, at the end of the book series I married Princess Peach to Mario and Princess Daisy to Luigi. XD I think that’s how it went, though it may have been the other way around.

The first book revolved around a rivalry between Peach and Magikoopa. Magikoopa and her friends insulted Peach who subsequently challenged them to a baseball game and collected all her friends. Things ended very badly with Peach losing both the game and her honor. An ego-inflated Magikoopa took on another game and ended up badly breaking her leg, which led to Peach feeling sorry for her and apologizing. Although there’s a cheesy reconciliation scene, in the end the two are never the best of friends. They have a love-hate relationship for the rest of the series. In all of the books there’s always, always, always a storyline where Magikoopa insults somebody or does something wrong then apologizes only to do it again and again. 😂

The second book I don’t remember too clearly, I’d have to go back and look. In the book series there wasn’t a huge running plot. There were many subplots and I did build character development and relationships (I mean the best as my eight-year-old self could do), but every chapter was just a new adventure for someone. One of the stories, looking back, I am surprised I wrote it because it was remarkably sad for the rainbow-and-unicorns girl I was back then. It was about Bowser and Bowser Jr., and how Bowser always sat all day reading this book called Herring’s Hurricane, about a fish caught in a hurricane. XD Bowser Jr. wondered why his father didn’t pay attention to anything but the book. There were hints at the death of Bowser’s wife, and at the time when I wrote them I thought nothing of it. Looking back now though, I think that was the reason Bowser always withdrew to read. He missed his wife. 😭

In the third book there was a storyline about one of the alligators (I forget their names) of DK’S Jungle. He saved several characters from a wreck on the Daisy Cruise and felt largely unappreciated until the entire island throws a party to make known to him how much they treasure him as a friend. (CHEESY, I know.) Unlike the other books in the series, the third one ended unresolved. It ended with the lighthouse in Wario’s City breaking down and flooding the city with fog (since only the light can drive fog away). There was no money to repair the light, and because of the fog there ended up being a famine since food trucks and stuff couldn’t see to drive in – it was too dangerous. So the third ended on that cliffhanger.

The fourth of course picked up with the issue of the fog. Wario (who’s obviously the mayor of the city) calls a frantic meeting of the other island leaders to discuss the problem. The meeting was full of tension, lol, with everyone yelling and getting very worked up. The fog was spreading to other areas of the island and the fog was getting worse. All the citizens of the island were frantic until Dixie Kong (who I established as being unusually wise) comes up with a plan: they all sell their old clothes, toys, etc. and raise money to repair the light. And guess what!? Her GENIUS plan works!! (Oh, eight-year-old me.) The fourth book, I believe, also contains a wedding: Peach and Mario’s. I believe Daisy and Luigi didn’t marry until the fifth book, although it may have been the fourth. *shrugs*

In the fifth book, the newlyweds Peach and Mario travel to the Winter Olympic Games Island for a honeymoon. (If you know what other game I was referencing.) There they have a run-in with Sonic and Amy, who are a married couple in my books. The two couples become friends, and yeah, that’s all I really remember from the fifth book.

Not sure what happened in the sixth, although I vaguely remember a storyline about Baby Daisy stirring up trouble of some kind and Baby Peach losing her diary.

WOW. DID I ACTUALLY WRITE ALL THAT??? I can’t believe I just wrote an essay about my fanfic. Soooo sorry for subjecting you to that, but I’ll post since I did spend quite a few minutes writing all that. 😂

@joy-caroline Wow! That is quite the series you have there!!! Impressive. I haven’t even finished one book in all my 12 years of life. XD I think I did start writing with fanfic mostly, but stopped writing fanfic to work on my series. And now I’m kinda getting back into it, because I actually want to prove the fanfic stereotype that ‘all fanfic is bad’ wrong.

                  Anyways, that’s really impressive. XD

Sure, if you want to read some of my Prodigy fanfic (I’m only putting up the good one I wrote though XD) I’ll put it in a next post.

@joy-caroline You asked for it. I think I was like 9 or 10 when I wrote this, so not too long ago. Oh dear, it’s very long, and kinda cringy. XD (Also, I had differentiated the characters with diff fonts, so I’ll try and use bold and italics to differentiate them.)

Hi. I’m Callie Stormchaser. This is a bit of wizard history that happened not too long ago, and it was confusing, and there were second thoughts, but it was IMPORTANT, and anyway, it makes for a good story.

Once upon a time, there were 6 wizards.
                    No.
                    Wait.
                    Scratch that. Too fairytale-y.
                    Aurora?
                    Yeah?
How about ‘There were 6 wizards-
There ARE 6 wizards. We’re still alive.
Fine. ‘There ARE 6 wizards, as well as others, who were the key to saving the world; and this is their tale.’
                    Ooh! I like it.
                    Hey guys!
                    What is it, Zane?
Hello? Can’t I narrate this story too? I was there when it happened.
                    I never said you couldn’t.
You guys, let’s just begin the story already!
That’s what I’m going to do!

There are 6 wizards, as well as others, who were the key to saving the world and this is their tale.
Callie, that’s a really sucky beginning.
                    ZANE!!!
                    It’s true.
I am going to start the story now. You are not going to interrupt me. Got it?
                    You’re no fun.
                    ZANE!!!!!
                    FINE.

There are 6 wizards, as well as others, who were the key to saving the world; and this is their tale.

“Hey!” I said. “Hi, Callie!” Aurora said. At this point we’d all arrived at the Academy and wanted to help Gale – the Academy’s Keeper – with the morning hours. “Hoi!” Zane flew down to meet us, his Tarragon in hot pursuit.
Callie, that was a terrible pun.
Also, YOU’RE the one who says ‘hoi’.
                    NO INTERRUPTIONS!!!
                    Oh-KAY! We get it!
                    Anyway.
“Hoi!” Zane flew down to meet us, his Tarragon in hot pursuit. Gale also fluttered over to join us. “You guys would be early to your own funeral!” he snorted. “Anyway, let’s clean the Academy before rush hour starts. Callie, can you check all the locks to see if ANY of them are open yet? Aurora, you should dust, and Zane and I’ll open the windows, water the plants, all that jazz.” “Aye aye, Cap’n!” I saluted before everyone dispersed to clean up. I checked all the locks, and they were all there. I was going to report back to Gale and walked through the pedestal room. Aurora was gazing at the pedestals. A soft, light green glow surrounded the emerald-encrusted pedestal where the Firefly Forest gem would be. “What’s that weird glow?” I asked. “I-I don’t know,” Aurora said. Zane walked in with a watering can and froze when he saw the glow. “Qu’est-ce que c’est?” he asked. Gale came in with a weird tool (presumably for opening windows) and paled when he saw the glow. “One of you call the others right now,” he said. “On it!” I said and pulled out my phone, and sent a text in the chat room we Wardens have. “Chloe, Ali, Luna. Come to the Academy, quick. Weird thing happening with Firefly pedestal.”

Callie, you haven’t told them about our… you know.
                    Yeah!!!
                    Okay, fine.
Some stuff I should tell you before we continue.
                    1)    We’re all Wardens, Luna the most powerful of all, being the Astral Warden.
                    2)    There are some of us you haven’t met yet but you soon will.

                    Hi everybody!
Speak of the devil, Ali shows up.
What is it? Are you telling our story from 2 years ago?
One of us will get to the 5-years-later part at some point soon.
Oh. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Callie’s brother.
Ali’s one of the Wardens you haven’t met in the story, too.

                    Back to our tale.
Luna and the others appeared in the room of the Academy. “Wow, that is weird,” Chloe said. Ali chorused an agreement. “What do you think it is?” “Maybe…. the pedestal is fixed,” Aurora said, staring at it.
                    Can I tell this part?
                    Sure.
Anyway, I thought the pedestal had been fixed. I placed the Firefly Gem on the pedestal and the glow grew stronger, and more whitish. There was a blinding flash of light. After, the gem was floating in its place, back to a soft green glow. Gale said, “Aurora! You fixed it!”  “What did you expect? I’m the Earth Warden,” I replied. Then, we all heard the sound of breaking chains. “Quick! I think one of the locks broke!” Gale yelped. We all rushed up to see the locks on the classrooms had, indeed, broken. We heard an unrecognizable accented voice(British) saying, “Will anyone help me? I am locked in this office!”  The voice seemed a bit familiar to me, like a distant memory. We found ourselves in front of a flowering archway. I rushed in and saw a door. The knob refused to turn, no matter how hard I pulled. “Hello? I’m Aurora, the Earth Warden. Who are you? We have help,” I offered. The voice brightened. “Ah! Aurora! I’m Florian, also an Earth Warden. I also happen to be your uncle.” “Oh, right! Uncle Florian! You’re Flora’s brother, right?”  “Correct. Your mum’s half-brother and Flora’s full brother.”  “Who locked you in?” I asked. “The Puppet Master,” he replied as if this were the most obvious thing ever. “How can we help?” I asked sympathetically. “Well, I think he’s hidden the key on the top floor of this tower, and I need you to get it.” “All right!” Callie fist-pumped. “A new adventure! Where do I start?” “Take the elevator up to the first floor and Noot’ll explain the rest.” “Thanks, Florian! Bye guys!” Her voice faded as the elevator carried her away. “Well, I hope they can get you out. I’m going to the Lost Island to help the Floatlings. See ya around, and contact me if anything happens. Bye!” I then traveled to the island.

Seriously, the Lost Island is practically dead. No one goes there anymore.
                    I know!
Well, I care about the Floatlings.
                    I don’t.
Uh, Zane, why don’t you talk about your adventures in the Earth Tower? I’ve narrated a lot so far.
                    Yay! I’d be happy to!
                    Okay, go ahead.
Well, when I got in the elevator, Noot told me that I had to do 3 battles per floor to move to the next one. This was kind of tedious and it essentially happened for all eight floors. When I did my third battle on the eighth floor, however, I got (along with Academy Pages and gold) Florian’s Office Key. I rode the elevator back to the Commons Room and unlocked the door. “Thank you, Zane!” Florian said from his purple bubble. “But I’m afraid Callie got to it before you did. The effort is much appreciated, though.” I looked up to see Callie in Florian’s chair, her feet up on the desk. “Well, well, well. You’re late to the party.” She smirked smugly. “You guys?” Noot said. We all felt the ground tremble. “No time for bickering! It seems as though there is an evil force taking over!” “I’ll handle this one,” Callie leaped up before I could say anything. She disappeared into battle, but not before we all saw that she was fighting a Shadow version of Gerald, the Firefly Forest boss. We all kinda stood around for a few minutes and waited. 2 minutes later, Callie emerged with not a scratch on her. “Thank you so much, guys!” came the voice of a grateful Florian. “Now go help the other Wardens! You’ll do great!”

Just saying, I’m not that bad. Zane, you know that.

                    I’m just….Never mind.

We all kinda just, after that, did normal stuff with our lives.
                    Yeah.
                    Jeez, Chloe! You scared me!
Well, we had to fight Puppet a lot, but other than that, yeah.
                    Let me describe.

We were all hanging at the Lost Island.
Against my, Ali’s, and Zane’s will.

And Luna was off doing Luna stuff, obvs. She’s never around.
                    True that.

Then we felt the ground shake. Weird, purple smoke filled the air. “Ugh, it’s the Puppet Master again,” Ali said. “You betcha it is,” Callie added. “Everyone, be on your guard, and someone call Luna!” “I will!” I said loyally. I called. “What is it?” Luna’s gentle voice asked. “The Floatlings are being attacked! Come on!” “I’ll be right there,” she responded, a sense of urgency in her voice. Luna appeared before us in a quick flash of light. “No kidding,” I muttered. Then the Puppet Master launched his attack. “Everyone, Warden Forms!” Zane yelled. Shadow Blasts struck down all around us. I raised my defense with a water barrier. “Yeesh!” I squeaked out as an energy ball struck me, destroying my barrier. Callie used her ever-powerful  Falling Star Smash. We all flurried with our attacks and dodged as best we could and eventually, Puppet went down. “He won’t stay this way for long,” Aurora warned. “Let’s go while the rest of the year is still safe.” So we did.

Life carried on like this for five years. We’d all applied for teaching positions at the Academy, and we’d all been accepted. Luna taught the Astral kids, I taught the fire, Callie the storm, Zane the ice, Chloe the water, and Aurora the earth. We’d get ambushed every so often. We had a home life. Aurora married. So did I.

                    Until one day…
Callie would be best off telling this.
Thanks, bro. I’ll take it from here on out. One day, I was teaching. “Everybody, fill out this worksheet on island history and I’ll tell you how I got Mira’s stuff.” “Callie,” a voice whispered from the door. I ignored it. “CALLIE,” the voice whisper-shouted. “What?” I looked up to see it was Aurora. “Can I borrow you for a sec?” “Sure,” I said, walking over. “What is it?” I looked up to see all the other Wardens but Luna were there. “It’s….guess who? Puppet’s causing trouble, suprise suprise!” Zane said, irritated. “Let’s get Luna,” I said. So I set up a quick hologram teacher for the class, and went downstairs with the others. We knocked on the door of Luna’s class. There was no response. “Luna?” Chloe asked. “LUNA???” I pushed the door open to reveal a dark, empty classroom. “She’s…..not there?” Zane stated. “Well, that explains why her ‘teaching’ was so quiet,” said Ali with finger quotes. “She never even taught at all!” “But I thought there were Astral kids she was teaching?” I asked. “There probably were, but no time for that!” Aurora said, just as the Academy shook. “EARTHQUAKE!!!” we all yelled. “Aurora! Let everybody out!” Zane yelled. “Alright, got it!” She ran upstairs with great speed. “Callie, get Gale and the Floatling merchant out! I’ll cover Florian!” Zane screamed. “Everyone else, get outta here!” “CAN DO!” I rushed off. I entered the room and Gale flopped straight into my arms, unconscious. “How’d he become unconscious?” I thought. I got outta there after rescuing the merchant, as per Zane’s instruction. I flew down to meet the rest of the Wardens. “Aurora, what’s happening?” Ali asked as the earth continued to shake. “I-I’m not sure! Someone else must be doing this, but I don’t know who!” she exclaimed. “Look,” said Chloe. “In the sky.” We all looked up to see LUNAfloating there, laughing menacingly. She seemed to be absorbing the island’s -our whole world- energy. “NANI?!?!?” Zane shrieked, just as we were swallowed up into the earth due to our standing on the cracked ground. We were falling. “AAAAAAAH!” was all we could say. After a while, the screeching ceased. “I never knew the earth was so……beautiful,” Ali whispered. There were colors all around us: pinks, blues; every color imaginable, and some not. “Y-yeah,” Chloe whispered hoarsely. Still, we were falling. It gradually got a little warmer as we fell. I moaned from lack of sleep. “I’m gonna take a nap,” I yawned. Then I fell asleep. I woke up some time later to find that I was lying in a greenish-blue space: the ‘ceiling’ was that color, the ground, everything. I heard a sound. Walking toward it, it was quickly revealed as the drip of water. Here I found my sleeping allies, every single one of them clearly in bliss. “Guys, wake up,” I said. No reaction. “GUYS!” Ugh. “GUYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYS!” I leaned my head back and shrieked. “unngh” “help” “wha…?” were the collective responses. “Guys, wake up! There are a couple weird lights I saw over there!” I explained. “Okay, coming,” Zane leapt to his feet. “C’mon!” I said. They struggled to their feet. We monotonously walked and walked, and as we went, the greenish-blue space became darker. We eventually came to a pit, glowing a soft yellow-tinted white. “What is this place?” someone murmured. “I think we’re… at the core of our world?” I said. We all fell to our knees as the surrounding space quaked and manic laughter filled the air, though quiet. “What’s happening?!” Aurora panicked. “Guys, we need to jump into that pit NOW,” I said. “On the count of 3!” “1, 2, ….3!” we said simultaneously, and jumped. “Wuaaaah!” We fell for a few seconds, then landed on the ground; a bit sproingy but hard. “Well, well, well,” purred a smooth voice we all knew too well. “What have we here? Let’s see… An Earth Warden, a Storm Warden, an Ice Warden, a Fire Warden, and a Water Warden! Oh, you just are ADORABLE!” Luna gushed. “LUNA?!” we gasped. “Oh, they’re so CUTE! They’re mine, Dusk!” a second person, identical to Luna, said. “Dusk?!” we questioned. “There is no Luna,” the second person giggled. “I’m Dusk, and that’s Dawn. We were simply pretending to be ‘Luna’ to fool you and take the island’s energy. Now that we have enough power, we will make you humans and take your power.” “Not really on my top ten list of ways to go,” Zane muttered. “Let the battle begin!” Dawn and Dusk giggled together. They immediately whipped out level 100 Chill & Char as well as a bunch of Shadow creatures. “Soooo, before we start, can I ask y’all a couple questions?” Ali piped up. “Are you guys Shadow element?” “Is that not obvious to you?!” I said, infuriated. Dusk giggled, raised a FINGER, and Zane hit the wall with a WHUMP. “Nebluff, Ultima Power Form!” I called upon my pet. “Nebluff!” it responded, in its most powerful form. “Big Hex!” I summoned my Epic. “AAUGH!!!” Ali was being tossed around, limp as a rag doll. “Helpmehelpmehelpme,” he whimpered. “Don’t you ever touch my brother again!” I screamed. “But I’m NOT touching him,” Dawn said, stifling laughter. “THAT’S NOT THE…never MIND,” I screeched. We tried the hardest we could but a) they had INSANE recovery and b) we barely less than made a dent and c) THEY TURNED US INTO HUMANS at some point. Ali and I were the last ones standing, somehow. But he was hovering at 9 HP, and then Dusk used Shadow Blast. Ali fainted on the ground. “ALI!!!!!!!” I cried, weeping over him, just as everything went black.

I woke up some time later to find I couldn’t remember anything. “Cal,” Aurora said. “Get up.” Then memory clicked on. “O-okay,” I stuttered. “We’re gonna try again.” Zane appeared. “How’re we gonna do that without losing?” I asked. “Maybe because of this?” Chloe gestured towards a familiar girl. “Luna? But I thought she ‘didn’t exist’,” I said.
                    My sisters were lying.
                    LUNA?!
                    They lied…Can I tell this?
                    I guess?
Thanks, Cal. I said, “My sisters were lying…I do exist. They think I’m not here right now.” “Um, okay, but we’ll need your help battling them,” Callie said. “We just need to reverse their forms so that they become normal humans, or at least level 1 with no memories.” I said. “They are my sisters, after all.” “Okay, the puck drops here…” Zane trailed off. “You, Dusk, and Dawn are sisters, right? Can you just explain this to us, short version?” “Sure. Once upon a time there were 2 Astral Wardens and they had me, Dawn, and Dusk, blah blah blah, but my sisters turned evil at one point and they started doing all this.” I explained. “Where does the Puppet Master fit into all of this?” Chloe asked. “Oh, well, um, Puppet sorta-kinda…I brought him into existence..” I trailed off. “WHAT!?” they all yelled at me. “Guys, I did it for your own good! I knew Dusk and Dawn’d do something like this at some point, so I had to make sure you guys were ready!” “Well, your plan sure worked reeeal good,” Callie said. “But how…?” Aurora said. “No time for that, I’ve gotta re-instate your powers and give you some new ones!” I rushed over to Callie. “Callie, you’re gonna have as your best form, a bomber pilot!” “How’d you know about my…Never mind, this is AWESOME!” she cried. “Zane, you’ll be a 10-foot-tall yeti, Aurora, a fairy, Ali, a magma dragon, and Chloe, a sea serpent!” I said, enchanting each one. There were collective ecstatic cries from all around. “Oh, NICE!” Zane cried.

If you’re still reading, start singing the best boss theme you know in your head, right now.

                    Sorry, Luna.
Yet she says “No INTERRUPTIONS” to us.
                    Huh?
                    Never mind…
“Okay, guys! Let’s do this!” I said, hyped. “YEAH!” the team screamed. We ran over to my sisters, Callie up with a first strike of Super Nova. Zane kicked them hard, they flew across the space. “Result!” he cried. Right then, I heard 2 menacing hisses. Chloe and Ali let loose with highly powerful magic. We, after a bit, had weakened my sisters so that they were asleep. “I-I’m sorry, guys,” I whispered. I let loose with one last Falling Star Smash, and they reverted to humans. “We did it,” Ali said. “We really did it.”

The words of Ali were wise.

                    We’d done it.
                    The End

Anyways yeah, cheesy fanfic. XD Why am I just now realizing how really not good this is?

I think fanfiction is a great non-intimidating way to enter the world of creative writing!

Since you already have the characters and the world, all you have to do is focus on the story and prose. This can be really nice expecially when starting out because instead of thinking about a million different things while writing you can just focus and get really good at those couple of things.

Also, what’s great about fanfics in terms of improving your writing skills is character voice. Having to write from already crafted and written characters forces you to learn what about their voice makes it uniquely theirs, so you can accurately replicate it. So that’s pretty cool.

But since I’ve never read fanfiction, I’m not sure what makes good or bad fanfic. But the first thing that comes to mind is maybe expanding and developing the world and characters. Kinda like good sequels do.

Do you have a favorite fanfic you’ve read?

                        @scripter-of-kingdoms

Thanks, lol. My brother was a big fan of the books I wrote XD He would read all of them.

Daaaaaaaaang, I’m not kidding – your fanfic is REALLY good! (It did take me a while to read but it was worth it lol.) I loved the banter between your characters, especially at the very beginning. So funny! And Zane’s my favorite, idk why.

I like your aspiration with fanfic. It’s true, not all of it is bad. Have you ever heard of the book Marilla of Green Gables? I think you could definitely call it a fanfic, since L.M. Montgomery created Marilla’s character but this other author wanted to expand on it. MoGG is about Marilla as a girl and a young woman (I believe it even includes the start of her lifelong friendship with Rachel Lynde and her shortlived romance with Gilbert’s dad). This author wanted to explore Marilla’s past, because many Green Gables fans (including me) are so so curious about it. Montgomery left it quite vague. But in MoGG, we get to see what life events made Marilla the way she is in Green Gables – strict, unemotional, and stiffly practical. This is awesome because I feel like most Green Gables fans gravitate to Matthew and don’t like Marilla. I don’t think Marilla deserves the dislike she receives in the first Anne book, because she did love Anne as much as Matthew did, and although she may not have known much about children she tried her best. Also I’m of the opinion that Anne did need the structure and stability Marilla gave her.

Anyways, I’ll put the link here in case you’ve read the Anne books and would be interested in this “fanfic.” Hopefully the forum likes my link, if it doesn’t work you can copy and paste.

Yeah, I think that fanfic is an easy way to get involved in writing. But I normally put myself/one of my various personas/one of my characters into the story with fanfic, so I really have only experience doing that.

@joy-caroline Aaah, thank you! I remember being really proud of it at the time, since it was pretty much my first ever story and I thought it was good. Haha, Zane’s a funny character- he has some pretty snappy banter, lol.

Ooh, l will check that out! I know I loved Anne of Green Gables, so will definitely give that a look. 🙂

We’re all proud of our first ever stories! And they are good for the level we’re at right then.

Cool! Nice to see you’re an AoGG fan, too!!

I used to think of fanfiction as a travesty to the writer’s original work, but not so much anymore.
It’s fun to write and a great way to stretch different skills:) I think what bugged me about fanfiction in the past was when characters’ personalities weren’t portrayed accurately or were made to act out of character. But other than that, I enjoy writing it.
My favorite fanfiction to write is probably scenes and ideas based on my favorite characters from Spirit Riding Free:)

                                Fanfic… Hm.

Okay, so as a child I hated coloring books. Like, with a passion. I could never get other people’s drawings to look the way I wanted them to look. Not to mention, it wasn’t fully my art. I had not drawn the picture, I had just added color.

I feel the same way about writing fanfic. (Personally. A couple people have already written fanfic for my novels and I LOVE reading it so much. Also one of my friends got a lot of her characters from a fanfic that she  built. So I’m totally for other people writing fanfic— I just really don’t like not being the one who drew the image in the first place.
