Ahhhhhhh, the joys of forming a plot. Alright let me cut to the chase here: HELP MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

There now that’s off my chest, I know that in my novel that I want to write (tbh I didn’t think that would come out of my mouth) the protagonist, Rax, was born as a pyromancer and pyromancers are wanted by the Lord of the Realm, so his powers must be secret. Rax shows his secret powers to the public and then gets taken away to the Lord. He somehow escapes with the help of Ben and then sometime later he comes back to stop the Lord but fails.

I don’t know if that is a good plot and I don’t know how many holes I need to fill, or I might be going insane. PLease help me!

I don’t think your plot is bad, it sounds interesting! And holes could be filled by considering some things and asking yourself some questions. That’s what I do whenever I need to fill in some unmentionables. Here are some questions you can consider if you want…

You don’t have to answer these ones, but they came to my mind when I read what you have:

Why does the Lord of the Realm want the pyromancers? And what is he going to do with them? Is there a war brewing, and fighting with fire warriors is an ultimate weapon would secure a win? Did a reckless or untrained pyromancer kill a community of innocent people or someone of high status a long time ago, and that makes him want to destroy them least they kill more?

What is the Lord of the Realm doing that would make the pyromancers want to hid their powers? Killing pyromancers would be a huge reason… but then again, why would he be killing them?

What would make Rax show off his powers in a world that is kinda dangerous for pyromancers? Is he just unaware of the Lord of the Realm’s want? Or is Rax just so full of himself that doesn’t listen (to a mentor maybe?), and so he shows off his powers and thus gets taken away? Is he pushed by a friend who thinks it’s cool to show off the powers? What kind of person is he?

Who is Ben? What skills, insight, or occupation or something does Ben have that could help in rescuing Rax?

If he fails in stopping the Lord of the Realm… what happens? Does he die and things just go on?

Basically, just ask your plot lots of questions! I think you’re off to a good start with what you have already!

(Another thing that I find helps a lot, is just knowing the characters really well. Their individual personalities and beliefs could easily affect how the plot is. Such-n-such is too scared of something to do this and so they do that which causes something better in the long run… such-n-such is so loud that they can’t easily do what they need and thus that happens which makes everything go terribly wrong and… blah blah blah. Get what I mean? I don’t think I explained that as well as I wanted, but basically, knowing your cast can help a lot with plot… in my opinion anyway! 😁)

        Maybe that helps some.

(Also, you probably are going insane. Most writers are I think, and that’s perfectly ok! lol 😜)

I do!! Oh, you are sarcastic? XD

This looks like a good start, I love pyro stories!

It helps to think of the key problems in the story. They are the “why” of the conflict, the reasons for the plot to exist. Characters can disagree and want different things. Sometimes a story introduces a question, and each character has a different answer which they fight for.

You’ve read LotR? There are lots of problems in LotR. Some of them are questions of power; what do we do with power? Are we better than others if we have more of it? Do we need power to succeed? Is power inherently good, bad, or dependant on the user? Is it possible for power to harm its user?

The characters have different answers to these questions and it causes plot! Boromir’s personal journey has everything to do with these.

What are the fundamental differences between Rax and the Lord? Why doesn’t Rax just surrender himself? Why does the Lord want pyromancers? If Rax wants to be free, why does he show his powers to the public? And why is Rax the good guy?

Thank you guys, those questions will really help me!

                  Who is Ben?

He’s the guy in the high school RP. I don’t think you’re apart of it but if you want a general idea of who he is you can check it out.
