Random side note because I did recently find this out. Easter is mentioned in the KJV Bible (Acts 12:4), but it was an incorrect/imperfect translation. Most other translations use Passover.
Huh, interesting… I just looked that up in KJV and ESV and you’re right. 🤔 I’ve never noticed that before!
That’s awesome. A lot of people I know eat tamales and enchiladas, but that’s kind of a holiday staple for around here.
Yesss, it’s so fun. 😋
Wait actually?? We’ll eat enchiladas other times of the year, but not specifically at Christmas (my Dad actually wants to, but the rest of his family would never be down for that XD). If you don’t mind me asking, what part of the country do you live in? I don’t think I’ve heard of that before

December 16, 2024 at 3:50 pm #192128Oh! Another tradition our family has is reading through an Advent devotional throughout the month of December. 🥰

December 16, 2024 at 4:04 pm #192133Really? My family usually has a more traditional Christmas dinner with cornbread dressing, potatoes, turkey, ect. But we did barbeque one year with extended family, and enchiladas another.
I’m born and raised Texan, and yeah. Tamales especially are definitely a holiday food here. Although that doesn’t mean we don’t eat them year round, which we do, they’re just a Christmas tradition I guess.
Ah, that’s a good tradition. We used to read a chapter from the book of Luke every day of December until Christmas, but that’s kind of not happened the last couple years.

Fork the GorkDecember 16, 2024 at 4:07 pm #192134We also have a bonfire and fireworks on Christmas Eve. It’s great fun.

Fork the GorkDecember 16, 2024 at 4:09 pm #192136Yeah, we normally have a more traditional dinner too (ham, green beans, mac ‘n’ cheese, potatoes, etc.). Dad likes to switch things up every now and then, but his side of the family (the one we normally celebrate Christmas with), likes to stick to the traditional meal. 😉
Ohhh, ok, that makes more sense now. I can totally see that being a Texan thing, lol.
Yeah, I get that. Sometimes we’ll have to do two in one night to catch up on another night we missed because of sports or whatnot.

December 16, 2024 at 4:17 pm #192137So, does your family have dressing or stuffing (or neither)?
We usually have cornbread dressing, although we have family up north who have stuffing, and I like both. The debates over which is better are fun to listen to.

Fork the GorkDecember 16, 2024 at 4:18 pm #192138I’m tryna remember, lol… Um… We normally do with Thanksgiving since we have turkey, but on Christmas we only serve ham, so I don’t think we eat stuffing too. I might be remember wrong though. There’s a couple side dishes that change every year.

December 16, 2024 at 4:22 pm #192140Ah. That makes sense. We have turkey and ham for both, so we have dressing at both.

No waaaay. O.O That’s our tradition! We have homemade tamales for Christmas dinner every year, plus a huge smorgasbord of cheese, meats, candies, etc.

It’s a great tradition. Also, homemade tamales are almost worth dying for.

So I assumed, although I’ve only actually made tamales once or twice. Raw meat would be… interesting.

Do you make French silk pies? We do that, and coconut cream pies. There’s also something called hopscotch, which is a mixture of peanut butter, butterscotch, marshmallows, and uncooked chow mein noodles.
That would be… interesting.
It would be. I’d rather not risk it. XD

December 16, 2024 at 4:53 pm #192157I just had to go look up what a French silk pie is (and am now craving chocolate). I love those, but we typically make chocolate cream pies with merengue like coconut cream pies (which we also make, and pecan pie, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, cheesecake…*moan of hunger*)
I don’t remember hearing of this hopscotch, but I’d be willing to try it at least once, although the thought of uncooked chow mein noodles…
