      @freed_and_redeemed @power

I appreciate your explaining! 😁 Makes more sense now. I have heard some people think it’s necessary to exhibit one of those gifts in order to be saved, and while I don’t mind it when someone believes in those gifts, I’ve always been uncomfortable with the necessity of the thing. Anyway, thanks!

I don’t fully know the reason why many denominations get rid of the sacraments. I don’t mean to offend anyone, I just don’t really understand what your belief is on them. Could another denomination friend answer my question on that?

Yup! *Dusts off my thinking cap* I can answer this!

So it isn’t that we get rid of already existing sacraments.

Rather we define a sacrament as a physical symbol of the new covenant between God and a Christian, which has been instated by Christ and described as an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The covenant is a promise by God to commune with us, as a result of Christ’s sacrifice, and a sacrament is a direct symbol of that promise.

We believe Communion is a sacrament because Jesus directly talked about it during the Last Supper.

And Baptism is a sacrament because it is constantly described in tandem with the outpouring of the Spirit, which is always a sign of a covenant between God and man.

Both of these signs had Old Testament equivalents, believe it or not! Passover, which was held once every year (I think), started with the blood of a lamb on every Israelite’s door. From that time forth, they celebrated Passover with a special meal. As for Baptism, Israelite men were circumcised when they were babies or older.

So how is this different from something like Matrimony? Matrimony is also a covenant, but it is about tying two people together under the eyes of God. It symbolizes a different thing in the Christian life. So basically it is a Marriage covenant, not a Gospel sacrament.

Of course all of the sacraments the Catholics celebrate are joyful occasions. My denomination just wouldn’t classify them as sacraments.

        Hope this answers your question!

TYSM for replying! I noticed sooooo many typos 😭.

          But any way!

          Roughly 1700-1800

Wow, that is a lot! Do you go to a mega church? I assume that because you talk about lasers and fog and such.

probably the biggest thing is what some of us were discussing above, regarding whether or not spiritual gifts are still active in the church today (I believe they are).

          I agree!

She’s the mother of Jesus. God chose her for that special purpose, in the same way that He chose other figures in the Bible for certain purposes. I don’t worship her or pray to her.

Again, I agree with this. Except for the last part. We do not worship her, we simply honor and thank her for what she has done for us!

my bedroom offers the most solitude.

The bathroom is the only place (besides the roof) I have to get away from the world LOL 😂

Creation- it makes way more sense than evolution.

          Yup, I am the same.

I don’t have a problem with it. Not that I’ve ever really thought about it before.

I meant to put religion 😅 but either way, yeah, I agree.

A little. Still leaves some room for questions.

What I am understanding is, you believe that Jesus told us to continue baptism and such, but matrimony is more of just a bonding with one another under God, rather than holding any sacramental value?

How big is your church? (if you go to church.)

The church I attend is rather small (less than 50 people) but we’ve been slowly growing the past couple years so maybe eventually the pews won’t be so empty.

What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?

Oh dear, there is an entire list of things I disagree with.

Mostly what I don’t understand with different denominations is how people can read their Bibles and still believe what they believe.

What is your opinion on Mary?

A normal woman chosen by God to give birth to His Son. She is definitely special because of this fact, but she is not perfect, nor is she holy. She has no spiritual powers and to pray to her is a direct violation of the Ten Commandments to not worship any other god. I know people will say that praying to Mary and making statues of her doesn’t count as raising her up as another god to worship but people treat her as if she is or is even greater than Jesus Himself. Making statues of her and praying to her is a form of worship.

What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?

Quite a few things actually, but i think most of them I will either never understand, partly understand or fully understand at some point, since they are God’s mysteries and if He wants me to know and understand, He will make it happen.

Do you have (or did you ever have)  a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?

Not that i can think of.

I’ve had family members, but my friend group has mostly been of the attitude that each of us believe a little something different.

Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)

I pray anywhere anytime. Obviously, most the time i do it in my head so i don’t disturb anyone by talking out loud in the grocery store. I wear a ring everyday to remind me to pray, especially for certain people.

If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?

Well, I used to work at some stables and my coworkers were not Christians and one day two sisters starting asking me about God because they knew I was a Christian. I don’t remember what I said exactly, but I didn’t start from the correct place. I started with Jesus I think, and that’s a pretty good point, but these people didn’t even understand who God was. If I was to relive that moment, I’d begin by setting up who God is, the sovereign Creator. I’d probably begin at Genesis, then skip to the Gospels.

Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand?

God created everything. I do believe in microevolution but not macroevolution. There is a big difference.

What are your plans to grow in the faith?

Obviously read my Bible more and pray. Also spending more time with other Christians and talking about my faith would be good. I also one day what to read The Institutes but that book is thicker than a Bible and I don’t have the time to plough through it rn.

And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith? (… I totally didn’t get this last one based on a friendly argument some people had… *cough cough)

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” -Hebrews 11:1-3

I think I’d call it a faith but I can see why some might not.

How big is your church? (if you go to church.)

Hmm, there are about 100 kids and young adults, and maybe….. 40? parents. I would guesstimate around 150.

What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?

I don’t agree with prayers to anyone buy God/Jesus directly.

What is your opinion on Mary?

Mary was a normal teenage girl. She was like any other Hebrew girl, except for her Genealogy, putting her in the direct line of David and Judah, so that Jesus did indeed descend from both. But there were other girls from the same line. She was chosen by God, she was extremely brave, but she was just a normal girl.

What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?

Hmm. This question kind of confuses me. I mean, I don’t understand why some pastors do certain things, or some churches do certain things, but I don’t think that applies to my denomination as much as the choices of said people. Some of the things are purely evil, (like preforming homosexual marriage) Some of them I just don’t agree with. But again, I don’t think that has much to do with my dinomination. Not all Reformed Baptists/Covenantors  preform homosexual marriage, not all Reformed Baptists/Covenantors  refuse to sing anything but the psalms, not all Reformed Baptists/Covenantors  believe dancing is evil, not all Reformed Baptists/Covenantors do colored lights and Sunday morning concert. etc. etc. It’s personal choices of the churches and the people who go there.

Do you have (or did you ever have)  a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?

Yes, there were two in my church. They’re gone now. Their father was doing some very bad things to people in our church, and they were following his example. They hurt me in quite a lot of ways, and I still struggle with that sometimes.

Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)

Well, I pray to Him anytime I like. I write in my prayer journal early in the morning before anyone, (including the sun) is up. I pray in my room sometimes, or I talk to him while I’m walking. But mostly just anytime any place.

If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?

Well, depends on the question and the person! Not one answer fits all. But I answer them according to what I know to be true in scripture. Often I will quote verses or explain things using a Bible verse as a springboard, or sometimes I just talk to them. God has promised to give us the words that we need. He does.

Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand.

                Lol.

Hmmm, let me look in the Bible….

                Looks like just God!

                lol.

What are your plains to grow in the faith?

To continue seeking God, praying, reading my Bible, and speaking with Godly men and women around me.

And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith? (… I totally didn’t get this last one based on a friendly argument some people had… *cough cough)

I think Christianity is a faith.

Oh, that is always sad to hear. OI hope your church grows and more come to the truth!

Mostly what I don’t understand with different denominations is how people can read their Bibles and still believe what they believe.

What do you mean by that?

A normal woman chosen by God to give birth to His Son. She is definitely special because of this fact, but she is not perfect, nor is she holy. Woah, where do I even start?! Okay, I am going to fight fire with fire! (I think I am using this right?) First off, we do not worship Mary, and I do not believe there is any denomination that does for that matter! And building a statue or praying to her is not a form of worship at all! People build statues for many great people through out history, are the people who built those statues worshiping them like gods? No! Neither do we with Mary! We specifically teach that we do not worship her, and just honor her! We build those statues (and saint statues) to remember and honor their faith. And about praying to her, we pray for her to pray for us. We ask her to pray for us, in our prayer, the Hail Mary, we say. “Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you.” as in, she couldn’t have done ANY of this if the Lord was not with her! “Holy Mary, mother of God, PRAY for us sinners,” We are simply asking in the only way we can for her to prayer for us. And that is the only way we can talk to Mary, through prayer.

I don’t mean to be rude, and I hope you understand! (Sorry if I did come off as rude)

I’ve had family members, but my friend group has mostly been of the attitude that each of us believe a little something different.

Oh,  could you tell me how?

I won’t go into it, but I went through a lot of abuse from them, but so subtly that it looked like I was the problem (I even believed I was) It wasn’t until things started to come to light and people started finding out what was really going on that i was able to see the truth.
