Hey writers. I’m just making this to share some of my plans for Crusaders, a Christian video game I am going to make. If you have any suggestions for the plot, the characters (either from the Bible or made up), or anything else, let me know. đ
The measure of a man is how much bacon he eats.
May 20, 2023 at 7:38 pm #144314Here’s the gist of the start of the game. Of course, it is put in story context, but the game will be pretty much the same.
I looked up, waking from unconsciousness. Immediately, I felt pain in virtually every part of my body, like I was a log in a raging fire. It was dark, the sky covered with a red fog, probably coming from that person theyâve been calling Lucifer. The air was full of dust, making it difficult not to choke. I had never seen such desolate a place in all my life. I stood, trying to ignore my throbbing headache, and started running. From what, I did not know. I was running on a beaten trail in the middle of a volcanic wasteland. Fires burning and lava flowing all around me, I barely managed to not overheat. I was desperate for help. I saw a structureâ with a gate. Maybe someone in there could help me.
I managed to stumble past the wiry, metal gate, and into what seemed like an arena. I walked further, looking around curiously. The dust filling the air made it hard to breathe, and my eyes were so dry that not even tears could flow from them. I felt aloneâ that is, until some unwanted company arrived.
He was a dark purple humanoid creature with wings, and his very presence made me feel uneasy to say the least. He landed on a volcanic rock platform in front of me and tossed a sword at my feet. âPick it up. Fight me.â he said. He remained silent and still. At that moment I knew I had made a mistake coming here. I ran to the gates, but as I stepped out, they slammed shut into me, knocking me back onto the ground. My bones ached as I struggled to stand. Streaks of blood dripped from my dirt stained body onto the hot coal floor.
I heard a chuckle from the creature. âShouldâve taken the sword.â I watched in terror as he walked closer to me, dragging a black blade behind him. It scraped the ground, producing a detestable sound, like nails on a chalkboard. I stood still, not that there was anything else I couldâve done. I was trapped, cornered, with no hope of survival. All I could do was hope that my death was a quick one.
Then the creature ran at me, but instead of killing me there, he threw me across the arena with brutal strength. I rolled across the ground and grunted in pain. This wasnât doom. This was torture. âWhy are youâ doing this?â I said, clutching my arm.
âAll who believe in the Lamb must die.â he said without emotion. His voice was gruff, like a wolfâs growl. He ran at me, this time preparing to strike with the sword. I braced myself, ready for the worst. Then I saw a flash of light.
A figure came down and started fighting my evil offender. He was just like the other creature, but white and glorious, instead of the dark color. They fought for a while, soaring through the air and clashing swords. Finally, the bright creature cast the dark creature a mile away with a beam of light. Then he turned to me. He flew to me, flapping his magnificent wings. He landed and held out his hand. âIâm Michael the angel. But you can call me Mike.â
âThank you so much. But⌠who was that other guy?â
Mikeâs face turned sorrowful. âThereâs not much time to explain, but Iâll do my best. Heâs a demon, led by Luciferâs army. I need to go lead the angel army, but Iâll get you to safety first.â
âJust give me a minute, I- I canât even stand.â I said, tears now being forced out of my eyes, even though there didnât seem to be any moisture left in me.
âHere, stay still,â Mike said. He held out his hand and touched my shoulder.
I shouted in pain, but good pain. I lifted off the ground glowing in a bright light, then fell to the ground again, this time landing on my feet sturdily. I no longer felt pain or thirst. I was clean and energized, more so than ever before. âThank you so much Michael!â
âRemember, itâs Mike. We need to go now, okay? That demon will be back with backup anytime now.â He held out his hand, and I grabbed it firmly with mine. Then, with another flash of light, we disappeared.

May 20, 2023 at 8:15 pm #144332One thing I wanted to mention . . . although I just realized if this is a game it’s not going to matter đ
Mike said.
Mike’s face turned sorrowful.
If the character’s referring to him as Mike, he probably won’t call him Michael đ¤ Just a tip

Sector 2: The First Battle
The light faded and Mike stood with me in yet another desolate place, but this one was brighter, and there was no dust. Really, the only thing bad about it was the ground, cracked and fiery. âHereâs where youâll be staying. What is your name, traveler?â
âIâm Christian.â
Mike tried to hold in a laugh, but it came out.
âWhat?â I said, confused.
âItâsâ nothing. Letâs get you some quick training then I gotta go. Follow me, kid,â Mike said, walking off to what looked like a straw scarecrow. When I got there, he gave me a sword. âI want you to hit it.â
I raised an eyebrow. âHit it?â
âYep.â
âOkaaaayâŚâ I brought the sword up over my shoulder and swung as hard as I could. I hit the arm, and the recoil knocked me back.
Mike started laughing. âRelax! Itâs your first hit. Try again, but this time, try not to fall down. Hit it over and over until something interesting happens.â
I nodded, then started swinging. I hit itâs arm, but managed the recoil this time. Then, I repeatedly spun around, hacked, and slashed the poor scarecrow. As I did, I felt something in me, like some sort of energy. Finally, I spun around and with everything I hadâŚ
Chop!
Its head flew into Mikeâs hand. The whole scarecrow set on fire, and a new one popped up in its place, except this one had a sword too. âWhat just happened?â I asked.
âYou leveled up. Youâre getting stronger. These are very small targets though, and youâll level up much more slowly with these. When you fight the real enemies, youâll level up a lot more.â
âWhat does it do? I mean, leveling up?â
âIt means you are getting stronger in the little things, so God is going to give you more skills to use in battle. Remember that beam of light I projected at the demon?â
âYeah,â I said, seeing it as if it were right in front of me again.
âYouâll be able to do that eventually. Just keep fighting with what you have, and youâll get there,â Mike said reassuringly.
I felt confident in my new fighting skills, or whatever youâd call my random swinging of the sword. But I also felt scared. What if I died out there and left the Christians helpless? I couldnât bear the thought. âIâm not ready,â I blurted.
Mike grabbed my shoulders. âWhoever God chooses, he equips. Heâs called you to do this, and heâs gonna get you through it. Gideonâs army was outnumbered four hundred to one, but they won. David was a shepherd boy fighting a giant warrior, and guess what? He won. God will get you through this, but only if you have faith. Now get out there and fight, kid.â
I nodded, like I was a soldier and he was my commander. He just had the essence about him. Then I remembered that he was leading the angel army. That made more sense. I started running to fight, but then realized I had no clue where I was going. I turned back to Mike awkwardly. He pointed in a certain direction. âThanks,â I said, though he was too far away to hear me. I changed directions and started running the other way.
As I went further along, the air became drier and dustier, and the ground was hotter. I could now barely see, but I kept going. I had this new confidence, like I had already won a battle. All thoughts of despair were gone. Then I saw my foe. It wasnât a demon, which I was grateful for, but rather a creature resembling a red fox. It had fangs that hung outside its lip, and its eyes were glowing red. Its tail had a mace at the end, and it looked like it wanted to hurt me.
I walked in a circle around it, our eyes locked on each other. Then, I charged. He jumped at me and did a flip. His tail came crashing down at my head. I dove to the side and dodged the attack. The fox bounced off the spot where heâd landed and started running at me again. He did the same thing as the last time, and I dodged again. The fox hit a softer spot in the ground, and his mace-tail got stuck. This was my chance. I ran up to it and swung my sword. A miserable squeal came from the fox, then silence. I had won my first battle.
The joy faded when I saw three more creatures enter the battlefield. There were two mace-foxes and the other was a large spider with fangs. Oh boy.
If you have any suggestions for the story let me know!

May 21, 2023 at 5:19 pm #144436I know you’re gone right now đ But I figured I would just reply while I have time.
When you fight the real enemies, youâll level up a lot more.â
âWhat does it do? I mean, leveling up?â
âIt means you are getting stronger in the little things, so God is going to give you more skills to use in battle.
This is an awesome concept đ I love how you used levels and also bible concepts, so that’s amazing!!!
One thing — wouldn’t Michael lead him to the battle or something?? I don’t know, it just kind of seemed like he gave him a sword and left. Although if the part before this was more of just an intro, I guess this is when the player really starts figuring it out? Or the battle could be close by. Also why is Michael not fighting?

May 23, 2023 at 9:00 pm #144786@hybridlore We’re back!!!
The reason Michael wasn’t there was because he had to leave and lead the angel army. In the game how it will work is whenever you are about to die, he comes and takes you back to the base. It is kind of weird that he isn’t helping, but the creatures you fight at the start are very weak compared to what he’s fighting. There was gonna be a intro battle, I guess I just forgot to include it.
