Howdy hi hay, as I like to say.
I got a problem today, so I’m sending it your way. Please help me I pray.
*stops using “ay”*
So it goes like this. I could use some input on a short story I just wrote. Normally I don’t bother you guys about little stuff like this, but I’m writing it for a contest so I want it to be as refined as possible. It’s for that contest I mentioned like a week ago, so if you decided to do it too, don’t feel bad if you’d rather not assist a competitor.? It’s only 1,749 words.
Basically, what I want to know is if the story is convincing and if there’s anything that specifically catches your attention that needs improvement. And then too, if you want to do a full-blown edit, that’s totally cool with me.
I can send it to anyone who is interested.

I’d love to help! My email: jada mae at zoho dot com
Guess I should tag you @Daeus
March 31, 2016 at 12:38 pm #10559Sure… I use my mom’s email, julieflournoy@yahoo.com.
Let’s hope the posting process doesn’t mistake it for spam… 😛
How soon do you want it back? The story, that is?
March 31, 2016 at 12:39 pm #10560Yikes, I didn’t know it would make it into a link… 😛 sorry, don’t know what to do about that. Just copy and paste it, I guess. 😀
March 31, 2016 at 12:52 pm #10561The overwhelming support here is frankly astounding.
@kate-flournoy Sooner is better since the deadline is in eight days, but I don’t expect you to hurry yourself. A couple days is fine.By the way, if you want to keep your email off the web, you can just send me an email through the contact forum on my website thescratchingquill.com and I’ll get back to you. That way you aren’t making your email address searchable.

March 31, 2016 at 1:11 pm #10563Ok, you two should have received an email from me now.

March 31, 2016 at 1:44 pm #10564Yyyyyyyyes I did @Daeus, and I had a quick question… this being a contest, do the rules allow for beta reading? I mean, I know feedback and all that stuff is allowed, but how specific are the rules for this particular contest? Or is it just that you have to do all final and actual editing yourself? People can tell you what they think, but the final decision process is yours?
Don’t worry, I don’t think you’d knowingly break any rule, 😛 but I just want to check. You never know about these things.
March 31, 2016 at 1:51 pm #10565@kate-flournoy. Yes, the rules have nothing against beta reading. It’s kind of uncommon, but I’m taking advantage of it.

March 31, 2016 at 1:53 pm #10566Okay, great! Thanks. 🙂 *whew* 😉
March 31, 2016 at 1:54 pm #10567@kate-flournoy Ooops, I just realized I didn’t get specific enough with my reply. Basically, it just has to be my story, not somebody else’s. I have to do the work, but there are no limits on help if I want it and I can receive suggestions, corrections, etc.

April 1, 2016 at 12:38 am #10595@Daeus more than happy to help! I guess you should have my email already from my little thing, so just send me the doc 🙂
April 1, 2016 at 8:32 am #10597Hey thanks @the-happy-bookaholic. I’ll especially appreciate your grammar skills.
I’ve still got a couple things to work through from Kate and Jada’s edits but I’ll send you a copy as soon as I’m done with those.
