Here’s the dealio. I really love music and singing, which makes it a struggle not to hum songs I hear in stores or someplace out of the house that aren’t necessarily good or God honoring. I’m always on the lookout for classical music and music without lyrics. I know there’s a ton of Christian music and singers out there, but with a lot of them their style sounds like everybody else, kinda that rock or pop feel.

I thought I’d create this topic where we can share Christian or classical music we’ve found. I’ll post some links to my faves ๐Ÿ™‚

      Dylan Laine (Christian singer/songwriter/musician):

Helen Jane Long (beautiful modern classical music) link to her newest album:

Ludovico Einaudi (modern classical-he has a very unique style):

The Nelons (family Southern gospel group):

I also love Audiomachine music (epic movie like songs ๐Ÿ™‚ ), some of Brunuhville and movie soundtracks (Marvel and Star Wars am I right?)

I don’t listen to a whole lot of modern music, Christian or otherwise because I’m not really into that modern style, but I absolutely love Casting Crowns. They’re the best band in the world basically ย (am I right @alia ?) If you haven’t listened to them I definitely recommend them.

Hillsong is a staple in Australia, I personally find they lean too on the repetitive, recycling side, but they do have some powerful songs. “This I Believe (the Creed)” and “Oceans” being my two favourites.

Have you heard of Owl City? I’m not sure if you’d like their style, but Adam young has redone several old hymns into a more electronic sound and I really like them. I think he’s put them on YouTube, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have an album of them.

Other than that, I love me old movie soundtracks. “The Two Towers” “Fellowship of the Ring” and “How to Train Your Dragon” are my favourite soundtracks.

Have you ever listened to Irish dance music, like Riverdance? I really like that Celtic style as well.

Anyway, I think I’m rambling now. I have to post WIIE part 4 ๐Ÿ˜‰

@jenwriter17 What about, Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, NEEDTOBREATHE, Crowder/Crowder Band/David Crowder, Tenth Avenue North, Audio Adrenaline, Danny Gokey, or forKING&COUNTRY?
That’s a quite a few different artists. But I’m not really sure what type you’re looking for. ๐Ÿ™‚

Big Hero Six, Guardians of Ga’hoole, and How to Train Your Dragon have nice sound tracks.

              @seekjustice
Oooh, I like Owl City’s music. But some of his songs are more secular. ๐Ÿ™
I just listen on Pandora so I don’t really know much. I didn’t know he redid hymns. But I like Fireflies, Broken Wing, To the Sky (from the Guardians of Ga’hoole), Thunderstruck, You’re Not Alone.

Oh Chris Tomlin’s good, I’d forgotten about him.

I have two of his older albums, but I don’t listen to them that much anymore . I just like his hymns ๐Ÿ™‚

@seekjustice I’ve heard of Casting Crowns and Hillsong too. Dylan Laine, the singer I posted a link for, sung a couple Hillsong songs I think. I haven’t heard of Owl City though.

I have heard some Irish dance music and I love it! I think I have a CD, somewhere….. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think once at a homeschoolers ball I went to they played Irish music for a couple dances. I’m pretty sure those were the most fun ones! ๐Ÿ˜€

                  @catwing
The only one out of all those I’ve heard is For King & Country. I heard about them from Jane I think. Yeah, Big Hero Six does have a nice soundtrack. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, the Hillsong ones are pretty popular over the world. I’m not a fan of a lot of them, but there are some really good ones!

Well, Owl City is probably an acquired taste, it’s very synthesised, and like @catwing said, some of the songs are more secular (and most of them make no sense), but yeah, you might like them. He’s a very unique artist.

Irish music is so cool ๐Ÿ˜€ I brought the Riverdance album a while ago and I’ve basically been listening to it on repeat for ages. (in fact, I am listening to it right now!)

To be honest, you can just stalk my youtube playlists to find out what I listen to. xP Heeere’s a couple though:

                        Everfound – Take this City
Some For King and Country stuff
                        Heroes – Zayde Wolf
The Black Piper (legit anything they write is epicness)
Two Steps from Hell (epic soundtracks–despite the name of the band xD)
Roo Panes (cool folk-y music, most with implicit Christian messages)
The Fretless (more cool folky music, but without lyrics)

@jenwriter17 Everyone elseย has great suggestions!

If you want folk-y Christian check out The Gray Havens.

Also The Piano Guys are great.

And the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack

And bunch of other stuff I canโ€™t remember

I listen to a lot of personalized playlists on Pandora, so I donโ€™t necessarily know the names of artists or groups that I like….

This is a funny story actually: last time I listened to Irish music was when I was in the same room as my guinea pigs. One of them (Rhino; his name is another story ๐Ÿ˜› ) was literally dancing to it! hopping about his cage and kicking up his heals ๐Ÿ˜‰

@jenwriter17 Which shows did you see?
Cool! I like the song Gentle On My Mind! Though I prefer the more old-fashioned arrangements, so the Nelons are a little bit too modern for me. But it’s still cool to hear it in a different style. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now I finally have time to give you my own favorites!ย  Here are a few singers I like:

Steve and Eydie were a husband and wife team who sang together until Eydie’s death a few years ago.ย  I’ve only listened to a little their stuff, so I can’t promise it’s all perfect, (especially since I think they did some rock as well, ๐Ÿ™ ) but I think most of their lyrics should be pretty good.ย  Here’s a really cute/funny song by them:
                                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP2hCAAt1v4

For duets I actually go more often to Gordon MacRae and Jo Stafford.ย  Their voices blend so perfectly!ย  They sing both hymns and other songs, but I’ve never heard any bad lyrics in their songs.ย  Here are a couple examples, one hymn and one not:
                                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knIDCbu2sqY
                                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmTfe4NUo54

And then there’s Jim Reeves!ย  His voice is just plain beautiful. He did some old gospel and country songs.ย  As with Steve and Eydie I can’t promise that everything he does is perfect, since I haven’t listened to everything he did, but I can say that most of it is very good, and I doubt you’d find anything by him that would beย bad, though you might not like some of it.
                                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ndMZqT6i4I

Hope you like some of them at least! ๐Ÿ˜€
