@rochellaine Thanks! there are quite a few names that are obviously taken from the Latin, but they aren’t as pretty in other languages. For example our some of our english names like Mary and Lucy used to be Maria and Lucia in Latin. the other reason I like using Latin for names is it gives (in my opinion) more meaning to the character, and you can do some cool stuff with that! I have a lady in the story I’m writing named Aspera (harsh) Vox (voice) she is quite literally the harsh voice of the government.

Okay, so this isn’t exactly on topic, but I’m trying to name a guy character and need some ideas. What I have so far: Arian, Bryson, Corban, Devan, Crew
I’m having such a hard time choosing. So, please either vote on which of the above names you like best or use your wonderfully creative minds to make some new ones. Thanks!

January 25, 2018 at 11:04 am #61308@dekreel I love it! 🙂 Thanks!
@ingridrd Do you have a little more information about your character? Just saying he’s a guy doesn’t explain much. Is he sweet and caring, or tough and distant? Is he big and muscular, and can he fight his own battles, or would he rather be behind a desk? How old is he? I would use these to get a picture and then decide what type of name fits him best."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
January 25, 2018 at 12:04 pm #61314@rochellaine That’s a very good point. *smacks face*
He is fifteen years old. He is mischievous, bold, and reckless, often does things without thinking. He can fight his own battles, but tries to do too much on his own (he’s slightly arrogant).
Appearance: windswept brown hair, dull green eyes, average height.

January 25, 2018 at 12:48 pm #61319@ingridrd Great! I like Devan because it makes me think of someone who’s a bit of a rascal, but still confident and commanding.
I also love the name Larik, which was posted here by @daughteroftheking . A regular name that gives me the same impression of character is Zac.

January 25, 2018 at 1:42 pm #61325@rochellaine I also like Devan a lot. Thanks for the input. (Oh, and Larik is a great name, by the way, @daughteroftheking, but I don’t feel like it suits my character. 😉 )

January 25, 2018 at 2:39 pm #61334@ingridrd I like Devan too, but can I cast my vote for Arian? It isn’t a name you hear a lot, but it’s not hard to pronounce or spell which is nice.

http://www.encircledbygrace.com/January 25, 2018 at 9:43 pm #61390@ingridrd Devan sounds perfect for this character. Only the spelling makes me think a little of the word “divan.” Which is totally beside the point and I’m probably the only one who thinks that way, but I thought I’d let you know anyway.
Quick question: Do you hear “Devan” pronounced the same way as “Devin”? Or do you pronounce the “a”? I think readers are likely to pronounce the “a”, so if that would bother you, you might want to choose a different name. Let me know what you decide, or if you need any suggestions. 🙂

Okay, so I have decided on a name. *drumroll*
Devin!
I thought about what you said, Hannah, so I just changed the spelling slightly to avoid any pronunciation errors. Thank you all for your input!

Which name do you guys like better: Peri, Phoebe, Piper, or Tegan?
You can pronounce it however you want.
January 27, 2018 at 7:34 pm #61527@dekreel I am rather fond of Piper, but one must inquire whom is this character you speak of naming? Please excuse my english accent, Jane Austen is getting to me. 🙂

http://www.encircledbygrace.com/January 27, 2018 at 7:39 pm #61529@dekreel I really like Piper because it reminds me of Piper Laurie, who was really cute in the 1950s:
However, if your character looks nothing like this, don’t worry, because she’s not that well known anymore, and I don’t think anyone would really connect the name. 🙂
I like Peri a little, too.

January 27, 2018 at 8:07 pm #61530@kaya-young I love English accents! And yeah, I have found myself speaking like that, too LOL
It’s… a secret project. For now, at least 😉
@rochellaine Cool! Unfortunately she looks nothing like that XDYou can pronounce it however you want.
