@anna-brie Sorry, I missed your post. There’s only one girl around my age where I live and she’s got a job now, so much harder to find time to meet together.
But we are looking at moving into town, so maybe things will change then. 🙂- This reply was modified 8 years, 2 months ago by BlueJay.
August 28, 2016 at 7:16 pm #16332I know, it’s so hilarious—all the small world discoveries one makes sometimes. 🙂
Oh, and I totally feel for you, @Bluejay and @Anna-Brie (and anyone else who said this 😉 ), because we live in the country as well, and most of the families similar to us (which aren’t that many, either!) live an hour or more away! It’s too bad.
September 2, 2016 at 3:55 am #16712@bluejay @claireC @anna-brie How are you all doing? Has it been harder/ easier than you thought? Are you glad you’re doing it? I’m not sure what I was expecting, but so far it hasn’t been hard at all, although there have been a few moments of temptation. I’m glad I’m doing it. Especially since we just moved, so my 2 1/2 hour routine has been shattered. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back on track soon, though. How is yours going, @ClaireC?
September 2, 2016 at 4:18 am #16713@sarah-h As you know I’m running the book club, so I have to read the Hobbit. I’m disappointed that it won’t be a solid month without fiction, but still, reading only one book (and not even the full thing) isn’t that bad. I’m really glad that I’ve done the challenge though. I’ve found better books to read, and they are challenging me in the way that I think, act and even in my faith. I always thought I had faith, but reading about some people has made me realize how little faith I actually had. So it has been well worth it.
Where did you move to?September 2, 2016 at 7:46 pm #16743Since I only started a couple of days ago I haven’t done much reading at all. There’s been a couple of times I’ve thought of something I wanted to look at in a novel, but I just remind myself and don’t do it. I’ll have to leave analyzing other peoples characters till next month, that’s all.
September 3, 2016 at 5:03 am #16763@bluejay Well that’s good. Which people have inspired you the most, with your faith and everything?
We’re probably less than 20 minutes away from where we were, actually. We’re still in the same city.
@Anna-Brie I haven’t been able to read much more than usual either. Hopefully once we settle back into a routine I’ll be able to read more, though.September 3, 2016 at 5:08 am #16764@sarah-h Definitely Hudson Taylor. I could just keep repeating his name. He was so awesome. Really trust in God and relied completely on Him. But I just finished off a book called Gift Hands and Ben Carson (the guy the book is about) is pretty amazing too.
Okay, I wasn’t sure if you’d moved to a different state, cause you got on KP earlier than normal, so my time zone. 🙂September 3, 2016 at 5:24 am #16770@bluejay Hudson Taylor…I read about him a while ago, so the details are all fuzzy in my mind. Didn’t he embrace the Chinese culture in order to evangelize, and the mission board/ establishment was offended by that? I need to read about him again. What is the name of the book about him? I haven’t read Gifted Hands, but I’ve seen the movie. It was pretty amazing.
September 3, 2016 at 5:33 am #16771@sarah-h He dressed like like the Chinese, yes, and he used chop sticks. And yes, the missionaries where very offended by that. I read about him in a Trailblazer book. But I know there are lots of different books on him.
I can’t begin to imagine how it has been made into a movie. That’s just unbelievable. Is it graphic?September 3, 2016 at 5:49 am #16775@bluejay Hmm, graphic as in violence or as in medical procedures? Because both are in there, but from your reaction, I’m guessing they left some things out. I don’t think there’s anything in there you couldn’t watch, although I guess the brain surgery scene might be disturbing. I know it made me feel weird. Now I’m curious. What was graphic about the book?
I’ve read the Trailblazer one! I wish I remembered it more.September 3, 2016 at 5:52 am #16776@sarah-h It described his operations. Not in major detail, but in a way that made me wonder what the movie was like. My sister has the movie, so maybe I’ll watch it soon. How many operations does it show? Does it show any twins?
September 3, 2016 at 6:00 am #16779@bluejay Oh, yes. And yes, it is graphic. The climax of the movie is him separating the two twins who are joined at the head. It also shows his removing half the brain of a little girl who had seizures because the two halves if her brain were fighting. I enjoyed the movie; if the surgery doesn’t bother you, I think you’ll like it. It shows his childhood and growing up years, which were pretty intense.
September 3, 2016 at 6:02 am #16780@sarah-h Maybe it will be a little bit longer for me, as I’m not that great with blood. I’ll probably talk to my sister and get her opinion too, and maybe, we’ll just skip a scene or two. 🙂
September 3, 2016 at 6:06 am #16782@bluejay If that’s so, then definitely skip those scenes. Blood doesn’t bother me, and I had some trouble with them.
That said, I’m off to bed. Good night! 🙂September 3, 2016 at 6:09 am #16783@bluejay, I saw Gifted Hands a couple of years ago. I didn’t think it was that bad. And that’s saying something, cause reading about cerebral spinal fluid in my science that same year made me feel faint. Um, yeah, I’ve improved since then. Anyway, if your sister’s seen it, then she’d know what to skip if you wanted to. It’s fully appropriate, though, which I think is great.
