My understanding of the difference between courtship and betrothal is that in courtship you have a formal time of getting to know each other on a deeper level and investigating the others beliefs to determine whether marriage is a good idea.
Betrothal on the other hand goes from friendship to engaged. They do get to know each other but without expression of any romantic interst and without the pressure caused by that. The young man talks with the girls parents, then with their permission (meaning they think he is suitable and that their daughter would likely welcome him) he proposes. There are different variations on it, as there is with anything, but that’s about it. September 23, 2016 at 2:16 am #18059@anna-brie Thank you for explaining it. That makes much more sense now. Hmm, I like both approaches…

September 25, 2016 at 3:28 am #18162@clairec @anna-brie @clairec How are you girls going? Only five days left, although for Sarah it is six. (I think?) I accidentally read The Bronze Bow 🙁 I forgot I was off fiction, but at least it was a good Christian book. I finished the book I was reading, Bruchko, and the only other book around me was The Bronze Bow, which my sister had just finished with. So…yeah…oops. 😛
September 25, 2016 at 3:42 am #18168@bluejay I’m going pretty well. It’s been a lot easier than I thought. I’ve heard of the Bronze Bow, but I don’t know what it’s about. Did you like it?
September 25, 2016 at 3:52 am #18169@sarah-h The Bronze Bow is about a Jewish boy who wants to get rid of the Romans. He hears Jesus talking and gets really confused. It is a great book, and well worth reading. The author is Elizabeth George Speare.
September 25, 2016 at 4:10 am #18172@bluejay, that’s okay! 🙂 I’ve mostly concentrated on my schoolwork, I believe you three lucky girls are all finished school! *Jealous look* Oh wait, jealousy’s wrong. Um okay…Envy? No? Okay, you’re fortunate (in this specific way) and I’m not (again in this specific way). Just kidding! 🙂 😛
In answer to your question though, I’ve done a proper read-from-the-Bible-and-another-devotional-and-pray devotion almost every day.
I’ve not read the Bronze Bow, but I’ve read Ben Hur…It was, um, long!! 🙂Official Member of the Certified Club of Aussie Kapeefers

September 25, 2016 at 4:18 am #18175@bluejay, *sucks in sobbing breath* Thanks! *sobs some more* *someone tells to ‘dry up’ (very British! 🙂 )* *dries up*

September 25, 2016 at 7:25 pm #18185I’ve been going alright. It’s not been too hard. I have however read one of Hope’s Realm Leaper stories, and I listened to some recorded snippets for a book in celebration of talk like a pirate day. But apart from that there’s been nothing.
I also almost read something in the car while travelling on the weekend but, I didn’t have much on my phone and we were listening to an audio book about the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. And I like history. I’m not even sure why I wanted something else.
I have been missing reading a bit of a well written story. Reading something familiar can help my writing voice. I sometimes forget how a story should be told and need a refresher.
September 26, 2016 at 2:14 am #18197@clairec I have been absolutely terrible with keeping my quiet time. I am determined to start up again tonight as soon as I get off K.P. Hopefully I will be able to stick with it this time. 🙂
September 26, 2016 at 2:39 am #18199@sarah-h, I’ve found it to be so difficult. I think I’ve been striving in my own strength. We need to rely on God more…

September 29, 2016 at 4:21 pm #18443@clairec @sarah-h @anna-brie IT’S THE LAST DAY!!! (for the Aussies at least) @sarah-h Do you still have one more day to go? (if you do, I will too)
So let me ask a few questions:
I know you all had school work to do, unlike me, but did you get a lot of reading done?
Did you reads books that if you hadn’t been doing this you wouldn’t have?
Do you regret doing it?
Was it hard? Did you forget at any stage and go to pick up a fictional book and then remember and regret that you were doing the challenge?September 29, 2016 at 5:44 pm #18448@bluejay, I didn’t really get much extra reading done, but I got more done than I would normally. I definitely do not regret doing it. I am so glad to have been able to do it with others. It wasn’t very hard normally, but on some days, when I was done my work and really just wanted to sit down and read, then it was difficult. A good lesson in resisting temptation. I got Hope Ann’s book, ‘Rose of Prophecy’ and completely forgot about our challenge and read the first few chapters. Woops!! but I think that was the only time…It was a very engaging book, @hope! I had a lot of trouble putting it down when I remembered! 🙂

I read a lot less than usual. maybe because I find fiction more gripping than nonfiction or maybe because I had a crazy month. At least it felt like a crazy month. I don’t know why.
I didn’t have anymore work that usual. (Not school work, I stopped that sometime last year, and I was already past year 12 age.) I think I’ve just been sorting out my life emotionally and figuring out what I’m supposed to be doing.I don’t regret it, and I may reduce my overall consumption of fiction in the future. But I’m not doing this again soon. It wasn’t hard to do, but as I said in the comment above, I’ve almost forgotten how good fiction is written. And reading can be so restful. I’ve missed it.
But this last week I’ve been spending more time reading the Bible, which is good. So refreshing.
