@kate-flournoy That makes it even better. Yes, much better, and I think his best friend should employ some creative magic tricks to stop him – though it won’t be good enough.

The more impossible the better, though packing an elephant in a suitcase is probably a stretch. I carrying things in almost impossible places would be a good one though. Also disappearing and escape tricks. Also making things look different then they really are or totally faking a scenario using magic to confuse Walter.

To illustrate, let’s say that this guy invites some of Walter’s men to come to a meeting under a pretense they would be drawn to, though the real reason is to use some very carefully crafted questions, statements and magic tricks/just tricks to get information out of them. He succeeds but the men finally see what he’s up to. They draw on him but just as they do so a thick cloud suddenly fills the room. It disappears just as quickly as it came and when it does, he is gone and there are metal bars blocking the men from all path of escape.

Yeah, magician stuff. Look it up if you want specifics.

The big thing about this guy though is that while he is fighting against Walter, his goal is not to defeat him, but to win him back to how he used to be.

                Okay. Good plan.

Are we outlining a full fledged story, or just as far as it pertains to Walter’s development? I’m cool with either one.

Okay, so we have a lot of material to work with. Please, anyone feel free to join in.

Unless you don’t like these kind of exercises, in which case feel free to sit on the sidelines and laugh up your sleeves while I and whoever else so chooses make fools of ourselves. 😛

So. Walter. What do we mean by charming and mesmerizing? Is it his smile? Is it his voice? Is it his bearing? What? What is it that makes him mesmerizing?

And how amid all this mesmerizing charm do we still remember his evilness? Because we need to be both drawn to him and repulsed by him.

                    Ideas, anyone?

In general, one way to make people sympathize with or like villains would be first show the villain as a victim, in an experience which he allowed to turn him evil. One thing interesting to do would be to have two people experience the same thing and show how they respond affects who they become. For instance two brothers’ family is killed and the one brother becomes hard and cruel while the other becomes more sympathetic to others.

Yes! That’s what we’ve got going here. In the first few posts we have two friends, Walter and Alex.
Walter’s family was killed by terrorists, and he suspected Alex of conspiring with the terrorists to that end. So he went and became a villain (I make it sound so easy, don’t I?) and then he killed Alex’s family. The difference is, Alex didn’t react by going and becoming a villain. He’s trying to win Walter back. And that’s where we are right now.

Ooo, that’s a cool idea. And for and example of a mesmerizing villain who everyone likes, how about this character?

                                No, I haven’t. 😀

He looks like quite an interesting villain though.

Oh my, things have been happening on my precious little thread and I wasn’t even here to see it. No time to spare though. Keep talking about how bad heroes can be made extreeeeeeeeemely attractive (not villains mind you, bad heroes). Yes, you see, the show must go on.
