Yeah, I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and we believe that Heavenly Father, the Holy Ghost, and Jesus Christ are three distinct beings, though they are indeed one in purpose. (Please don’t burn me at the stake😅)
I’m not inclined to burn people at the stake, and since I can’t burn anyone through my computer, you’re safe 😂 Just kidding, haha. (well, not kidding that you’re safe, obviously.)
I’ve always been confused about what Mormans/the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe. That’s interesting!

LEFSE FOREVER!!!!!! <333September 25, 2023 at 12:03 am #157150I suppose that’s a working explanation. Where Christ is the solid, the Holy Spirit is the liquid, and Heavenly Father is gas, expressing the hierarchy of God’s physical manifestation. Both solid and liquid are confined to this earth, whereas gas can permeate through all of space. I like that explanation more than the egg one.
Once again that’s a good mentality to have. By my own theology, God can choose to reveal these sorts of secrets to us in this life, but not everything needs to be revealed. All we need to know right now is His love for us, and everything else while of varying import, is secondary.
Ah, thank goodness😂 I’ll still keep my happy distance through a screen, just to be sure😆
Yeah, there’s a lot of confusion around our beliefs specifically. This is the case with every group of people, religious or not, but I think there’s a special brand of misunderstanding around us. I’ll be happy to answer any questions if you have any!
@trailblazer and @savannah_grace2009Thanks for the awesome and respectful thoughts!

September 25, 2023 at 10:13 am #157162@thearcaneaxiom I’ve also heard the egg explanation, too, but to me the liquid/solid/gas makes more sense.
Also, I’m just curious why Latter-Day Saints go door-to-door to talk to people. I’ve heard that it’s required? What is it required for?
Then again, I could be wrong, or maybe I’m thinking of Mormons. Honestly, I get the two mixed up a lot and I’m not super aware of the differences.

September 25, 2023 at 2:07 pm #157169Mormon is the nick name for the Church, so there isn’t really any difference😂 That being said, we prefer to use the true name of the Church, because it expresses that we worship Christ, and that He is the core of the Gospel, many think we worship Mormon, when we don’t. Mormon is regarded as a great profit of God, but this isn’t Mormon’s church.
Anyways, missionary work is definitely not required. You may be thinking of Jehovah’s witnesses, a group that is mixed up with our own sometimes, though I’m not positive they are required either. When it comes to serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, all worthy able young men are commanded to serve for 2 years. It is still their choice of whether or not to go, that’s between them and the Lord, their membership isn’t revoked or anything. As for all worthy able young women, they are not commanded, but are welcomed with open arms to serve for 18 months, and they are deeply encouraged to ponder and pray about it.
I hope that clears some things up!

September 25, 2023 at 2:45 pm #157171Thanks! That helps to clarify things! I didn’t realize Mormons and Latter Day Saints were the same. But that makes more sense now!

Some more intriguing questions for anyone willing to discuss!
What happens to those who don’t have the opportunity to learn about the Savior in this life?
Where is the line we must walk between scholarly rigor and child like faith?
Do we discern truth based off of what feels right, or what has more logical substance? (More and more Christians I meet seem to prefer the latter in the form of Sola Scriptura, but many others say we should also judge by the Spirit, so I thought it would spark an intriguing discussion.)
What is good and evil REALLY? (I always thought this fundamental in Christianity, and indeed it is, yet I’ve heard so many different views that are very different between denominations.)

More questions worth discussing:
How do we know that we interpret Scriptures correctly, when there’s so many different interpretations found? (This is different from a discussion of translation)
How do we discuss dilemmas that seem unique to our era and have no (seemingly) direct reference to what we see in scripture?
Anything else?

October 3, 2023 at 7:44 pm #157904Hi Kathleen!
I noticed you were online, and out of curiosity, I’m wondering if you are planning to ever continue our conversation. I’m afraid that because so much time has past, it might be stale now, but just thought I’d ask.

October 3, 2023 at 8:01 pm #157910Hey! How’s it going?
I was just catching up on the most recent posts on this Apologetics forum as there always seem to be interesting conversations brewing here.
I’m totally down to continue our previous conversation or move to a new one (the questions you asked in your most recent posts are quite fascinating) do you have any preference? Because either way, I’m sure it would lead to an interesting discussion.

Um… you ask super deep questions and I’m a new Christian. Also I’m a Reformed Baptist just for clarification. 😉
To your latest question: When solving dilemmas not spoken of in scripture, I pray for starters and then ask trusted older people who know better than me for advice. Such as my parents, Sunday school teacher, Pastor, ect.

Also, the trinity has always confused me. I’m going to have to look up sermons on it. I just can’t wrap my brain around it. I believe that the trinity is 3 distinct beings and yet they are all the same person. I need to do more of an in-depth study on what that truly means tho.
October 3, 2023 at 8:43 pm #157915A few of your questions sparked some thoughts, so here ya go 😝
Do we discern truth based off of what feels right, or what has more logical substance? (More and more Christians I meet seem to prefer the latter in the form of Sola Scriptura, but many others say we should also judge by the Spirit, so I thought it would spark an intriguing discussion.)
The answer is simple enough. We discern truth based on the truth God has revealed to us in his Word. He tends to be both logical in the Bible – I believe strongly in Sola Scriptura – and appealing by his Spirit. When you’re a Christian, those two ideas don’t contradict. They both drive you by the same truths and goal.
What is good and evil REALLY?
What do you mean by REALLY? XD
How do we know that we interpret Scriptures correctly, when there’s so many different interpretations found? (This is different from a discussion of translation)
There are many interpretations out there, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a right interpretation.
I think there are elements in the Bible that can be heavily discussed, and we can only come to strengthen our opinions, since we can’t know we’re right.
In that case, I can’t tell you the answer, except that we need to look at everything with an aim towards the truth, unfazed by distractions or personal fulfillment.
But there are some which are essential to salvation, and with the aid of God, we know they’re true. There are fundamental truths which you cannot be a Christian without. In that case, you know.
I honestly believe that the Bible is amazingly consistent, if you study the overarching story, the microcosms, all of that AWESOME stuff. (Which I want to talk about someday on here!!) So another thing you can remember is that God is always right, always perfect in his communication, even if we get it wrong.
How do we discuss dilemmas that seem unique to our era and have no (seemingly) direct reference to what we see in scripture?
Oof, I love this question, because when you dig down to the foundation of Christianity, you begin to realize God’s unique perspective can be compared to any other perspective, with enough context. It’s all about knowing what those foundations are. (I love the word know so much right now XD) You have to boil in those truths for a while – and I’m honestly still new at displaying them with certainty, so keep that in mind – but I would promise to anyone it is so worth it.
