That sounds good, what you developed so far seems like a good base to start for him.
Yeah, it’s interesting to have those kind of quirks in a magic system, like the nats in Mistborn.
Divine/magic influence is always the simplest way to go. Many point out that saying “a wizard did it!” is bad, and in a certain context this is true, but it’s really a good worldbuilding device to handwave the most difficult problems to deal with, just as long as it isn’t applied to the narrative context.

I’m not really sure. I mainly wanted some symbol for each Resonance. Each one is the color of the crystal that gives that power, and each one’s shape represents what it does. For example, the bright green one (bottom left) represents Infusion. It has two arrows pointing at one point, representing the way that Resonance pulls energy from the environment into one object.I’m not a language expert, so I don’t really know how I could use these in a language, but if you have ideas, I’d be happy to hear them!

📚 Appreciator of BooksOctober 1, 2023 at 9:27 pm #157645I am always happy to nerd out over languages. There’s many ways they could be used to convey meaning. They could function as phonemes, allowing a spoken language where they act as letters, or they might not carry that idea at all. Since they are made to visually represent a concept, they would be referred to as pictographs, like hieroglyphics. With that in mind, they could perhaps convey different meanings based off of what they visually represent when combined with other symbols, like Chinese. This is also very similar to Hebrew, where each letter has an inherent meaning, and when you form a word, you should be able to just look at it, and figure out what the word means based off of the combination of concepts from each letter.
Essentially any singular symbol is a glyph, like the letters of the alphabet. A rune is the same thing, but more often with a arcane or magical connotation. So the symbols you’ve created represent magical concepts, so either way, they are technically glyphs if they are meant to convey meaning, but they could be runes if the symbols themselves have any magical connection to the crystals or powers.

Okay, thanks for the information! Maybe I’ll try to work something out, but then again, that sounds hard. XD🏰 Fantasy Writer

📚 Appreciator of BooksOctober 1, 2023 at 9:52 pm #157647Writing in general is hard, but hardness is subjective, and it’s all up to what you want. Here though, I don’t think it would be that different from developing a magic system. It’s all about the structure. In terms of developing things like lexicon can come later if at all.

Maybe, but I find a completed magic system more satisfying than this. It’s just personal preference, but it’s not one of the top things I would choose to spend my time on for a story. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever try it, but I have a lot of things to work on.🏰 Fantasy Writer

📚 Appreciator of BooksOctober 1, 2023 at 10:11 pm #157649Well, the structure can be complete, but the completeness of a language is arbitrary. Toki Pona just has over 200 words, because it is so minimalistic, but it is functional. The case here is you can have a completed structure, then the words themselves you can come up with when needs be, or you can work out a small set of words, and consider that the full set, because the range of relevant concepts in regard to the magic is probably small anyways. I see your point though, it’s not everyone’s thing, so that’s entirely up to you.
