This isn’t my main project, but it’s another idea I’ve been working on on the side. It uses a magic system I shared a while ago.
Setting
The genre of this story is what I’m calling “magicpunk,” like steampunk, or cyberpunk, but with magic instead of technology, or rather, technology powered by magic.
This story takes place on Ildin, a planet in my fantasy universe, Celestiar. Ildin’s surface is uninhabitably cold, but it has a vast system of caves, which are warm enough for life, due to the planet’s superheated core.
An energy called Resonance emanates from the core and becomes trapped in the large crystals that grow in the caves, making them glow. Some people have figured out how to harness Resonance to power machinery.
In some places on the planet, there are deep rifts into the Abyss, to which no bottom has been found. A strange variety of crystals have been discovered growing in the Abyss. Unlike typical crystals, they glow intensely with Resonance, rather than emitting and dispersing the light. New scientific possibilities are being investigated with these Resonance Crystals.
However, these crystals have many unknown properties. Some people are beginning to discover them for themselves…
Characters
Vlydia
Vlydia is a scientist researching Resonance Crystals. At some point, she accidentally bonds some crystals of Verdant Synthinite, gaining the Resonance of Fusion. This power lets her telekinetically attach objects, stick objects together, and create intangible tethers between objects.
Nedan
Nedan is a minor who works in the Abyss, gathering Resonance Crystals. During his work, he accidentally bonds some Aurinite Crystals, gaining the Resonance of Dynamism. This power lets him absorb energy out of objects and infuse it into other objects. He begins training himself in how to use these abilities.
Krenna
Krenna is a thief who steals some Resonance Crystals and ends up bonding Ethralux crystals. This gives her the Resonance of Consciousness, which lets her split her consciousness apart. These separate aspects of her can move freely and invisibly, making them useful for spying and scouting. However, keeping pieces of herself split off has unhealthy effects on Krenna. Notably, she begins viewing the split off parts of her as separate people, and they adopt their own personalities and skills. Each of her fragments fills a role in a thieving crew.
These are the characters I have created so far. Throughout the course of the story, they are forced to work together, despite not liking each other. There are seven more Resonances, and I will probably have a few more characters with some of these abilities, but a few powers will probably not get much focus. Specifically, I will likely have someone with the Resonance of Connection, which lets the user forge mental links with other people, and someone with the Resonance of Destruction, which lets the user destroy objects by ripping apart their molecular bonds.
Plot
I don’t have anything beyond a few vague ideas for the plot. I’m probably going to start writing without an outline, which I’m exited about trying, because I haven’t done that before.
This is one of my favorite story ideas. It’s the only one that I have created a very unique world for, and it has my favorite magic system. I’m really excited to see what I can do with these powers.

Any noun can become a verb if you don't care enough.
He was from the theoretical story I might write with Essenceburning, meaning that there is no named planet for it yet.

My sister hates reading and only writes when forced to (she’s eleven), and my brother only writes because he sees me write (he’s seven years old, lol) and wants to be cool. Hopefully they’ll come to their senses, lol
I had to teach myself how to write and can’t really talk about my WIP’s with my family because they aren’t into the genre I write and they don’t understand what I’m talking about, haha

📚 Appreciator of BooksI really like this! The main thing I haven’t heard about yet is the characters. Is it going to play out in a similar way to Stormlight, where the characters at random points come across their abilities? I really like Krenna as well, but she seems highly resonant to both Shallan and Steven Leeds (I don’t know if you’re aware of the latter, but Legion is another Sanderson series). Is there more to her unique condition that makes her a different story to tell? If not, that’s fine, there’s always more aspects to explore for the same concept, but I’m curious since I know your aware of Shallan at least.
He is perfect in Justice, yet He is perfect in Mercy, even when we fail Him. For this, He is good.
