I was researching for writing tips and saw that people say you should not use Alliterations? My main charcters name is ” Shauna Sarah Smith”, I really like the sound of her name, but should I change it? Why shouldent we use alliterations? Thanks!

        Great question!!

But the answer solely depends on you and what you want for your story. I feel like the name Shauna Sarah Smith would stick in my mind if I read your story. It’s easy to remember, and it may be something that defines your character. If you decide to keep it, make sure you don’t use alliteration for any other character’s names, because then it would probably be too much.

So when it comes to alliteration and names, use it in moderation. In my opinion, once is enough. Then it becomes a trademark for that one character.

I suggest you don’t change it, but of course it’s totally up to you as the author to decide what to do. 😉 I hope that was helpful! 😄

@acancello Hmmm I would think that people say not to use it because perhaps if you have multiple characters with alliterated names, it would give the story a very fairytale-ish or imaginary world kind of feel and would be “unrealistic” if you know what I mean.

I agree with Esther tho, I think one name is fine and I like the sound of Sarah Shauna Smith. You could do some fun things with that especially if your character is one to internalize her thoughts a lot! And hey, if Marvel can get away with “Peter Parker” I think you’re okay 🤷🏽‍♀️😂.

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

OK thanks! I have 2 other characters who are her brothers and there names are “Samuel Smith and Scott Smith” I haven’t picked out there middle names yet. Do you think that would make it sound unrealistic?

              Hmm…

Well, this is something that you’ve gotta be careful with. You could say that alliterative names is what their parents wanted, because I know some parents have a “theme”, if you will, for all their children’s names. (For example, me and my siblings all have Bible names [and so do my parents 😁])

So it all depends on what their parents are like, and if naming their children with a theme is something that fits their personality or not.

Yes, the parents did do a theme I was going to have there names also start with “S” but I think that would be to much, and I have not really created them yet, so its ok if I change there names 🙂

                Thanks!
