@bluejay Have you ever tried writing poetry from a vocabulary list? I had to once, and it was more fun than I thought. Here’s the result:
A Tale From Two Views
View One: The Tragic End To A Shrimp
A shrimp was lodged upon a ship
Which bombed the rival airstrip
He heard the bullets bang and zip
As bombers turned the gay flagship
Into a blazing starship
And that’s what we call popcorn shrimp.View Two: History Records…
The mighty Moorish corsair
Entered into warfare
With Great Britain’s ire
The British sent their airfare
T’was backed by many a prayer
And blew the mighty corsair into air.The disadvantage of vocabulary list poetry is that some of the lines are decidedly unpoetic. But it does force you to get creative. 🙂
September 2, 2016 at 10:50 pm #16761@sarah-h Where do you get the vocabulary lists from?
September 3, 2016 at 5:13 am #16768@bluejay I really don’t remember; it was from some homeschool assignment a few years ago.
September 3, 2016 at 5:18 am #16769@sarah-h Can you give me a list yourself then?
September 3, 2016 at 5:36 am #16773@bluejay I could post my brother’s lists from his grammar book, if you want. They wouldn’t be the same as the one I used, but I guess that wouldn’t matter. They’re around 20 words long, I think, but I could post them in 5 or 10 word segments if that’s too long. I guess it depends on how long you want the poem to be. 🙂
September 3, 2016 at 5:44 am #16774Post them all and I’ll use what I can @sarah-h
September 3, 2016 at 5:54 am #16777@bluejay Great! It’s almost 3a.m. here now, so I’ll do it tomorrow. I mean, later today, after I go to sleep and wake up. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! 🙂
September 3, 2016 at 5:55 am #16778@sarah-h 3AM???? How do you manage to stay awake???? It’s almost 8pm here, so I’m off to bed soon too. 🙂
September 3, 2016 at 6:03 am #16781@bluejay Haha! For once we’ll be going to bed at around the same time. 🙂 And I don’t usually stay up this late; tonight is very unusual.

September 19, 2016 at 2:56 am #17589@bluejay Have you tried this kind yet? I wish I could have found lists with better words in them; the first two look pretty hopeless.
September 19, 2016 at 3:02 am #17590@sarah-h I actually forgot about these lists. I’ll look at them tonight. (I was wondering what I’d be doing) Thanks for reminding me. Will you be around for writing in an hour and a half???
September 19, 2016 at 3:21 am #17593@bluejay I’ll be asleep by then. 🙂 I really want to write some more soon; it’s been getting harder to find a time when my brothers aren’t using all the electronics (I think that’s the wrong word for it, but oh well). Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to write some. 🙂
