Greetings, fellows!
I’m Maggie, and I’m new to KP! I enjoy writing melodramatic fantasy novels, and would like to write for screen and stage (also melodramatic, probably). I have done a lot of stage acting, which teaches one a lot about how to write characters (though not, apparently, how to write for screen and stage very well…).
I also love languages, and am trying to learn to speak some modern Hebrew!
Favorite series (or is it serieses?) would include Lord of the Rings (movies and books), The Hobbit (the book and the only the first movie, for me), The Wingfeather Saga, The Green Ember, and Narnia. I must confess with a small amount of shame that I have never read a Ranger’s Apprentice book (I know, I know…).
See you in the Kingdom!
January 17, 2023 at 10:07 pm #129313Hello and welcome!
Cool interests! I love the wingfeather saga (totally cried a little at the ending XD) have you been keeping up with the animated series? If so, do you like it? I love it XD
I’ve read the green ember and ember falls, It was alright to me. Super intrigued by Kyle, might continue the series just for that lol.
I’m mineralizedwritings, dystpian ya writer, artist and maker of comicy thingys.
A couple of newbie questions:
1. Are snakes cool?
2. What is your wip about?
3. Favorite music?
4. favorite wingfeather character?

January 17, 2023 at 10:29 pm #129314Hellllllllloooooo
I’m Folith-Feolin @otherworldyhistorian twin brother
also welcome
Im currently working a board game wip but I also help with otherworldlyhistorian’s the Khavarian Legendarium. I also have not read the ranger apprentice (but I did read all of 39 clues (eh)) I love Tolkien but have not read the wing feather saga (shocking). A my favourite author at the moment is probably Brandon Sanderson and my current favourite book is The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie (although I just finished it today so I might be a bit infatuated)
questions:
- Favourite Tolkien race
- Favourite board game
- What is your opinion on the schlieffen plan
- If you could only read 5 books ever what books would they be
January 17, 2023 at 10:32 pm #129315Great to meet you Maggie. It is always great to meet fellow fantasy lovers. I am also an actor and have done some scriptwriting. It is also cool that you are learning Hebrew.
Now time for customary questions:
1. Opinion on The Rings of Power
2. What is your favorite drama game/warm-up?
3. Prefered acting Style
4. Favorite Video/Board game
5. Favorite word in Hebrew
Now I will tag my brother @folith-feolin

Hi! *waves*
*curiosity strikes again* Melodramatic…is this just because you like that or because your story is a spoof?
Cool, I’ve also done acting. (XD though I’m not very good at it)XD I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, how does one say more than one series(es)?
I’ve read all the books you’ve mentioned except the Ranger’s Apprentice series. I’ve heard of it but probably won’t read it.

(Part of) Isaiah 45:19January 18, 2023 at 1:21 pm #129325Nice to meet you!
1. Snakes are definitely cool! Though I don’t think I’d want to be in close proximity to one for an extended period of time.
2. My biggest wip is difficult to pin down in a single sentence, but it’s a fantasy(ish) novel about two sisters who live in an abbey, and the adventures and problems they encounter as their plans for their futures are interrupted by the outbreak of a war. I say fantasy(ish) rather than fantasy, because my co-author and best friend (@landric) and I created a world and several languages, but there isn’t any magic or fictional races, so I’m not sure if it quite qualifies.
3. Favorite music would be hard, but my favorite bands are The Arcadian Wild and The Gray Havens, and my favorite composer of classical music is Claude Debussy.
4. The Florid Sword, hands down.
January 18, 2023 at 1:33 pm #129326Hello, @folith-feolin!
1. Probably Hobbits. They’re so down to earth, but also carry a simple elegance with them.
2. My favorite board game… The Family Man has a Christmas board game called “To Bethlehem”, and we play that every year, so I love that. Patience tends to fail me when it comes to bigger board games, but this is a character flaw that could be improved with practice.
3. I can not claim to be familiar with the Schlieffen plan, and a search on Wikipedia was not particularly enlightening.
4. Is the bible included as one of the books, or is it five books other than The Bible? I would say The Bible; The Noticer and The Noticer Returns, by Andy Andrews (sort of self-help books meshed with novels: indispensable); The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgeson Burnett, and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. If I’m allowed one more because The Bible doesn’t count, I’d add the Fellowship of the Ring.
January 18, 2023 at 1:48 pm #129327@otherworldlyhistorian, Hello!
1. I did not watch Rings of Power, but I’ve heard second hand that it was visually impressive, but there was little to no transformative arc for Galadriel’s character, which is always make-or-break in a show to me, so I think I’ll have to pass on it.
2. When I was a kid in drama camps, we played a game called “Freeze” which was in improve game in which members of the audience could shout “Freeze!” when a scene seemed to be dying out, and would swap out with the actor of their choice and continue in a different direction, and that was always my favorite.
3. Musical theatre is my first love, but I’m partial to screen acting, as well. I’m not very good at screen acting, though, I act too “big”.
4. Favorite video game is hard to determine, but I was introduced to the Pokémon series at a young age, and I still really enjoy that. It’s a way of connecting with my siblings, who are bigger gamers than I am.
5. I think my favorite word in Hebrew is מִדבָּר (pronounced “midbar”), and it means “desert”. There’s a wonderful song called במדבר (“bamidbar” = “in the desert”) by the band סולו (“Solu”, a word in the biblical command to “build up a highway”), and it’s super fun to sing along to in Hebrew.
Here’s a link to it, if anyone’s interested! They’re a Messianic Jewish worship band and prayer ministry.
January 18, 2023 at 1:51 pm #129328Hello, @gwyndalf-the-wise !
I said “melodramatic” because I have a hard time writing serious scenes without making them painfully over-the-top, so I was using it in a self-derogatory way, but frankly I do kind of like melodramatic stories!
January 18, 2023 at 2:15 pm #129331Hey, Maggie!! *waves* Welcome to the Kingdom! I’m Esther: a volleyball-playing, violin-squeaking, dog-obsessed, homeschooled, God-loving, amateur writer!!
Awesome that you and Landri C. know each other!
As for my writing… well… it’s all over the place. Lol. My WIP is ya dystopian, and I worked on a fantasy duology for a while (which is now put aside for a very long time). I have ideas for a his-fic, contemporary, and 2-4 biblical fictions!
*gasp* I LOVE WFS too!!! It’s sooo good! Have a favorite character?
Acting sounds like so much fun! I really enjoy doing it! (but I’ve only performed in Sunday school Christmas plays when I was younger XD (and Christmas plays with cousins)) I’ve considered doing theater in college. It’s definitely a possibility!
Hebrew sounds hard to learn. Is it? I’ve thought about trying to learn it, but never really started. I’m slowly learning Spanish at the moment, but after that, I want to try French.
*whew!* Ok. Now time for the questions!!
1. What is your favorite vacation destination/place/spot (etc.) that you’ve been to and why?
2. Starburst or Skittles? Which do you prefer? (Or neither? 🫢)
3. If you could live during any point in the history of the world, what time period (or era) would it be?
Nice to meet you and see ya around!!
Write what should not be forgotten. — Isabel Allende
January 18, 2023 at 3:04 pm #129342Ah. Yeah, I struggle with writing emotional scenes and making them realistic. But I do love a good melodramatic spoof! =)

(Part of) Isaiah 45:19January 18, 2023 at 3:22 pm #129352Hello! Welcome to the kingdom! I’m Lightoverdarkness6, Or just Light, a teen who loves reading, playing piano, drawing, exploring in nature, and of course, writing!!
Fantasy is a cool genre. I write Contemporary Fiction! I’m currently debating on whether to turn my book into a 3 book series! (Ahh, the troubles of a writer XD)
Writing for screen would be awesome!! It’s one of my secret dreams to turn my book into a series or movie. (Though that will probably never happen).
Wow, you’re learning Hebrew?! That’s so cool!
Yay!! Another Lotr and Narnia enthusiast! And Wingfeather saga is so good!! So is the Green Ember! (@mineralizedwritings Girl, I think everyone here sobbed their hearts out over the ending of WS! Haha, I know I did.)
Now for some newbie questions!
1. If you could choose to meet any three person/people (actors, writers, historical figures, etc.) who would you choose and what would you ask them?
2. Which of your characters are most like you? (In appearance, personality, or other)
3. Which of your characters is your favorite to write?
Again, welcome, and I can’t wait to get to know you better!
@otherworldyhistorian @Elizabeth-hearten
I have watched season 1 of RoP. I’ve heard lots of bad things about it, (guess-ability of scenes, flat characters, not surprising spoilers, ect.) but, imo, It was pretty well done. I liked it. Everyone has their own opinion, and I probably won’t change mine. But I understand other’s point of view as well. 🙂
