OH, and @ellette-giselle (I’m so sorry for all the questions; if it bothers you, just tell me to shut up😂), how did you feel about Leon/Riker’s first meeting? bc I was really curious how people would feel about that.
@rae you can answer too if you want 🥰these questions are really for anyone that’s read the whole book XXD (or at least almost the whole book)

July 31, 2024 at 3:49 pm #184026@freed_and_redeemed Take your time if you need to! It’s better to have it finished later and it be carefully edited and stuff than rush to get it out and it not be as good as you wanted it to be.
Heh, we’ll see!

July 31, 2024 at 3:53 pm #184027@keilah-h Oh, I know🥰 I’m still not rushing it, I’m just saying that I’ve been working on it a lot the past few months (added 20k in a month💀😂) and HOPE to have it published in 2025, but if it’s not then that’s ok too :3

August 1, 2024 at 8:26 am #1840342025!!!!!!!????? What! No! I can’t wait that long!!!!!! Oh Blast! Ugh. grrrrrrr.
Ok, fine. I get 8t, I do, so don’t anyone give me the “doing it right takes time lecture”lol. Trust me, I know! just……. 2025? *sobbing*
No, ask away!!! You should see the amount of questions I would ask you if you had read me debut!
The internal conflict. Well, let’s just say I really loved it in Riker, though sometimes I wanted to sit the poor guy down and have a talk with him and help him clear out a few lies from truth. At least just to start. He’s in the crazy place where he believes about as many lies as he does truths!
Leon……. can I say by 2/3rds of the way though I wanted to slap him? Oh man, I almost lost it with him. Now, I don’t know if this was my own frustration because the scene was so good, or I was frustrated because the conflict was dragging out and shouldn’t be. Ya know? I think I’m just impatient for peace, and I also HATE weak men, and Leon was starting to feel like a pretty weak character over there.
They’re meeting was go0od! And it was COMPLETELY realistic that Riker didn’t help Leon. In that place in time, he just could not have done it unless he was ready to go fully in, which he wasn’t. I will say that another reason I was losing my temper with Leon was because of the way he was misjudging Riker. I mean, I know how much he wanted to help them, and was trying to help them, and then how much he lost and sacrificed…… and then Leon just LAYS INTO HIM! man, that really turned me off, because Riker was my favorite, with Fin as a close second, and Leon was unfeeling toward both of them, though very mean to Riker. (somewhat understandable, not in any was justified.)
Any more questions you can think of!!!?

August 1, 2024 at 10:27 am #184037Just got to the scene where Riker meets Fin… !!! My dread and excitement are building the farther I get into the book. 😆

August 1, 2024 at 12:20 pm #184044@ellette-giselle Welp, sorry, but you’ll probably have to wait at least that long😅😂
And yay, so I can ask as many questions as I want!!! XXD
The internal conflict. Well, let’s just say I really loved it in Riker, though sometimes I wanted to sit the poor guy down and have a talk with him and help him clear out a few lies from truth. At least just to start. He’s in the crazy place where he believes about as many lies as he does truths!
Fair, fair. Riker believes a lot of lies and truths and sometimes gets mixed up on what’s what. I’m glad you liked seeing it in Riker though!
Leon……. can I say by 2/3rds of the way though I wanted to slap him? Oh man, I almost lost it with him. Now, I don’t know if this was my own frustration because the scene was so good, or I was frustrated because the conflict was dragging out and shouldn’t be. Ya know? I think I’m just impatient for peace, and I also HATE weak men, and Leon was starting to feel like a pretty weak character over there.
Wellllllllllll be prepared for quite a bit of that to continue into the 2nd book😅 And may I ask what you mean by weak? (and also, don’t you dare slap him. I will protect him just as much as I will protect Riker, thank you XD)
They’re meeting was go0od! And it was COMPLETELY realistic that Riker didn’t help Leon. In that place in time, he just could not have done it unless he was ready to go fully in, which he wasn’t.
Yay! I’m so glad it was good!! And soo glad it was realistic!
I get that😅 But I can also entirely understand where Leon is coming from. Leon is a character hard to love, tbh, and it’s ok if you don’t love him like you do Riker 🥰
But I am curious…is the main reason you dislike Leon is bc of him being mean to Riker? As a character, was Leon good?😂 Bc now I’m concerned😅😅
And I feel like someone has to have a lot of love and patience to love Leon. He’s hard to love, I mean, what else can I say???
Any more questions you can think of!!!?
Ooh, ooh!!
Did any characters feel like they didn’t belong in the story or could have been taken away, or did every named character that appeared at least 2 times played at least a minor role in the story and added something to it, even if minimal?
(though some very minor ones are there more for introduction purposes too, in that a lot of them will appear in other planned books👀)

August 1, 2024 at 1:15 pm #184045Hmmm, was the reason I didn’t like Leon because of Riker? Yes and no. I hated the way he was treating Isaiah and Yosef. It was hard to see him just lose all his faith and turn on God. It was understandable, but again, in no way excusable. It’s rough, and that’s where he was weak. He should have called out to God to give him strength and he should have hung onto his faith and believed that God was real in the bad times and in the good times. For him, he met the fire and we found a lot more dross then gold in his faith.
As a Character he was good, but like I pointed out, he was not a very strong man. That may change, but as of now I say Yosef is stronger a man then Leon.
Any characters that didn’t belong? hmmm, not really. At first I kept mixing up Erich with Hans and a few of the times I thought they were one in the same, (I would forget one existed when reading about the other.) but about a quarter of the way into the book it certainly panned out and they were two very different characters, and Erich most certainly played his roll.
I can’t really think of one. I would have liked to see more of Jakob though. Especially because of the connection he ended up having with Riker I would have liked to get to know him better. The instance I’m thinking of kinda jumped out of the blue, and I was like, “woah, where did all that come from! and then there could have been more development with Jakob and another character I’m thinking of…….”
Also, SPOILERS BIG TIME!
There was that one scene where Riker and Leon were both on their knees and someone was going to be shot, and it seemed super confusing. Hans was saying someone knew what Riker had been up to, and at first I thought he was talking about Leon. Then it seemed like there was a third man, and then the chapter ended and you never found out who, (if anyone) died.
Those two scenes above are the ones I have the most complaint about. Otherwise, it was so good!
END OF SPOILER
Any other questions?

August 1, 2024 at 1:29 pm #184050@ellette-giselle I do understand your confusion😅 but as for the one with Jakob, Jakob is going to be a MC in another book, along with his brothers, but his story wasn’t really for Freedom’s Fire, but rather for his own book, if that makes any sense
And I kinda understand what you mean about Leon, but I also don’t. Him losing his faith is a reality of what happened to many in the camp. Understanding Leon takes a real and raw understanding of grief and trauma and how those things can really affect someone. I get what you’re saying, but I don’t personally agree. Losing his faith feels realistic to me, and tbh, we can’t even begin to imagine what those who survived Concentration Camps went through. So many lost their faith, and Leon is a (though fictional) example of that. And I personally know someone that once had faith but lost it bc she blames God for her pain. The reality is that it does happen…it’s heartbreaking, but it does happen.

August 1, 2024 at 1:32 pm #184052But if you don’t love Leon, that’s ok. I love him and that’s what matters most😂🥰
#BeardedSteveRogersIsSuperior
August 1, 2024 at 1:33 pm #184053also, Leon’s faith in the beginning wasn’t the strongest anyhow, something explored more in the later books👀

That’s what I’m driving at! I felt like that was true.
Yes, many did loose their faith, but many didn’t as well. I’m not saying it’s unrealistic, I’m just saying his faith wasn’t very strong to begin with.
The thing about Jakob makes sense. That’ll be run to read.
How about the other one? the “spoiler” one?
