@rochellaine My family just watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers last night. Turns out my dad had seen it before, but a very, very long time ago, so he’d kind of forgotten about it. But, oh my goodness. I think we all must’ve died laughing at some point in the film. It was hilarious. Especially because I’ve read Plutarch’s Lives before XD I loved the concept and how it poked fun at both the backwoodsmen and the townspeople XD And then little things like Frankincense just added to the concept :’D Who’s your favorite character and/or brother? Mine were Milly and Gideon 😀
Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Isn’t it hilarious? 😀 Yes, the “Sobbin’ Women” song is really funny. Especially the part where Adam says “but, these bein’ civilized parts, boys, we’ve got to kidnap the preacher along with ’em.”
And I can understand why Frank wanted to beat up his brothers when they mentioned his name…poor guy!
Oh, my favorite character! I adore Gideon too. As the youngest brother he’s so cute! …I was just about to list some of the things I liked about him, but there are too many. 🙂 I do like Milly a lot, since the actress is one of my favorite singers, but I think I’ll have to pick Adam as my other favorite. His song in the beginning where he’s searching for a wife, “Bless yore Beautiful Hide.” It’s crazy.
And they did a good job with being able to have a few serious scenes along with the craziness, didn’t they? The part where Adam meets his daughter is so sweet!
Thank you for the recommendation! Haha, yes, that part was hilarious. And then when they forgot to get the minister too xD
Yeah, a name like that would get on my nerves, too 😛 Especially the reason his mother named him that. 😛
Yes! Two of my favorite parts that I can think of are when Gideon punched Adam, and when he got Alice out by meowing XD
Wait, that’s the actress’s real singing voice? I’m astounded. Because wow. Haha, yes, that song was hilarious. I thought Adam had quite a nice change, but Milly was kind of the grounded character who taught the boys good behavior, and I liked that she could hold her own so well 😀
They did! It was amazing to have such a hilarious concept but such real change and sweet scenes in there 😀 Even though there was a lot of love at first sight there was also teaching about what love really is and how it takes time. I really appreciated that. And yesss! That scene was too sweet, and it showed his change of mind perfectly! And such a good lesson, too <3
Yes, I know for a fact that at least Jane Powell (Milly) and Howard Keel (Adam) used their real singing voices. I think Russ Tamblyn (Gideon) did too, since he did a lot of other musical films, but they dubbed him in West Side Story, so they might have dubbed him here. But Jane Powell and Howard Keel were both well known for their great singing voices.
Yes, wasn’t she? It’s hilarious to see that little bitty girl bossing all those huge men around. They’re terrified of her, but they could pick her up and throw her if they wanted to. 😀
Wow, that’s pretty cool. Well, their voices are amazing 😀
Haha, I loved that. There was a lot of respect for her and she knew how to get them to obey her xD
