@ellette-giselle This is random, but I just had someone call Baron a babygirl.
Which apparently in this context “refers to a man who is both attractive and charmingly sensitive (or brooding/self-possessed/quirky) as opposed to stereotypically macho.” (Merriam Webster)
I just thought it was kinda funny, lol.

    • Okay…… 🤣
That’s kind of funny, actually. Though I’d prob. not like it if my character was called that. Not very flattering name. 😂

Btw, how is all that going? Did you find someone to publish it?

      • I was very confuzzled when they said that. I personally won’t be adding it to my vocabulary but I found it interesting.

I still plan to go with Wild Horse Publishing, if you’ll still have me, however the current thing holding me back is money. I do not have enough saved, and I don’t have a job yet due to health issues.
As soon as I get a job and save enough, I will be diving into publishing (I already have a couple people outside KP and my friendgroup interested, so that’s promising)

        • Oh yes of course we will! Okay yeah, did I give you a price quote yet? Take your time. However long you need is fine.

          • No, you haven’t given me a price quote, but from what I’ve seen online, it can take up to $2000 to $4000 to publish. I was planning on saving $2000 but I only have $700 right now. Maybe a little more after winter because I do get snow money and I have a few relatives who always send Christmas money because they live too far away to see us, but at the moment, that’s it.

            • Well, I can tell you right off the bat that it will not be that much to work with us. If you give me a page number then I can give you an estimated quote on what you need to have in hand before we can start.

    • @ellette-giselle
The reply button had to go to bed apparently.
My doc is currently sitting at 97 pages. I do plan to go through and edit though, since I’ve found some week spots, and also need to clean things up, but it’d be around 100 pages.
I’m sorry if that’s too vague for you, that’s the best I can give until I go through again (I stepped back for a few months).

      • lol
yeah no worries. I have to do something really fast, but I’ll get back to you on that in a minute.

      • So, running that as a mockup, here are the estimated prices to print each book.

        Paperback, black and white illustrations—
$3.66 per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

Hardcover with dust jacket, black and white illustrations—
$10.14 per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

Hardcover with printed case no dust jacket, black and white illustrations—
$8.53per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

        Paperback, full color illustrations—
$5.35 per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

Hardcover with dust jacket, full color illustrations—
$11.83 per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

Hardcover with printed case no dust jacket, full color illustrations—
$10.22 per book (not counting shipping, handling, and tax)

So the lowest possible option would be the black and white paperback. If you print… hmm, let’s say, ten of them for easy math. (I recommend printing the amount that you for sure have buyers lined up and waiting, plus 5 extra to start with) but anyways, we’ll do 10 for easy math.

        3.66 x 10 is 36.60

That’s the print cost, then the 50 dollar formatting fee makes that 86.60

On the high side, (full color hardcover with dust jacket) it would be 168.30 with the formatting fee, (and neither of these quotes cover shipping and handling)

So you would need to come to us with $86.60 to $168.30 in hand (but I would up that to $120- to $200 to be on the safe side and cover the shipping and handling that the press charges.)

Of course, this doesn’t count for the cost of an editor or illistrator if you need either of those. They set their own rates and you would have to go to their page on the website and contact them directly for a quote, or if you want to go with editors and illustrators outside of our company that is 100% you prerogative as well.

(and this quote is based off estimated page count, it will go a little up or down with the finished product.)

Is this helpful? And please let me know if there are any questions I can answer. Sorry I didn’t send this off yesterday. It got busy. XD

        • Woah, that was not the numbers I was expecting.
So, I have the money I guess (the sad thing is it looks like I’ve had enough for months and didn’t know it).
          Thank you so much!
About illustrations, I’ll probably do those myself to save on money and capture my vision.
For an editor, I know that I need one of those lol so I’ll get into that.

I have a few changes to make to the Baron Chronicles, and I’ll need to do those illustrations, but after that, I think I’m finally ready.

Thank you so much for the help!

          • I would have been sad if you didn’t want to do the illustrations! It just wouldn’t have been the same! ☺️

well, i think the time of stepping back will actually help you refine it, so maybe it’s a good thing! We have a few editors working for us, or if you know of someone else, feel free to chose them as well. Here are our editors, but don’t feel obligated to use them. https://wildhorsepublishing.net/our-editors

Looking forward to working with you and really excited for this book to be published! It really is an amazing one!

    • loll this is so funny to me, I’m active in a lot of online fandoms so I hear this term all the time 😂 it’s usually used for well loved characters or people so please consider it highest compliments

    • Bro what—
Oh I would hate it if someone called my characters that lol

(Given that most of my charries are from fanfics, there’s a very high chance someone already has.)

      • Lol. I don’t like the term itself, but I find it flattering that someone used a term that meant that about my character because it shows affection.

    • That seems like a pretty broad category to be fair, lol, unless the character has to be obviously sweet/sensitive/vulnerable in order to qualify. But that’s still funny.
