WARNING TO ANY UNSUSPECTING SNOOPERS: DO NOT OPEN THIS THREAD IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS FOR ROMANOV.

    @ellette-giselle

Yes, I’ve read Romanov a few times. It’s pretty good 🥲. But sad. The first time I picked it up, I got to the part (you know… that part, the middle-ish thing 💀) And I, never hearing of the Romanovs before, was like… 🤯. Then I gave it another chance later, and was weirded out, but finished it, lol.

    Initial thoughts?

    • Ahhhhh! It was so good!!!! And I sobbed for Ivan!! Oh my goodness! That poor boy broke my heart! That was one of the most wrenching death scenes I have ever read, and you didn’t even see it. Just knowing what was happening, and watching Maria slowly realize it too! oh man!
And Zash! I loved him! Okay, the moment, THE MOMENT, he was introduced I knew he and Anastasia would fall in love, and that he would rescue her, and that the relationship would be tense, and that he would betray the army. She used two extra words to describe him over all the others, but it was enough. How about you?
I was also really glad Alexei didn’t die. I really, really liked him.

      • I know…. Ivan 😭😭😭 And poor Maria. That’s a good point–she didn’t even go into detail or anything, but you still knew what was happening and your heart was breaking for them… I might have to take some notes. 😅
Yeah, I could tell pretty soon too I think. I don’t think the author was trying to keep it a secret. Usually love interests are pretty obvious (oh, there’s a guy her age, and he’s handsome… but moody. lol.) I don’t know if I really liked him that much. He was okay. Alexei, 100% loved. He was the best little brother, and they probably had one of my favorite brother-sister relationships ever. Plus, his sickness, and how he wanted to be strong for his country… 😭

    • Also, are you referring to the assassination part? Or Ivan’s part?

I know the story of the Romanovs, and I was so mad at her for building up their characters because I knew they all died. lol. I just tried really hard not to get attached.

      • I was referring to the assassinations, but I was also shocked when Ivan died. Yeah, I was over there with no clue what was going to happen, so it was pretty traumatic when they all died. Lol.

        • WHAT! Zash was so 100% my favorite of all the characters. I was so sad for him when Ivan died. Oh man. And how cruel that guy was!!!!! Ugh!

I’m going to go reread Ivan’s death scene. It was a masterpiece.

What did you think of the fantasy spin that she added to it? I enjoy how she does that with her historical fiction type books.

          • It was sad when Ivan died. I felt for him then. But the rest of the book, eh. He was okay. I guess I liked how he was so remorseful after trying to kill Nastya… but still.

Lol. I love the fantasy twists that she adds, but I much preferred the one in Fawkes with the color powers and the plague. This one, felt borderline because of the spell stuff. I probably wouldn’t have finished it if I hadn’t known she was a Christian.

            • True, true. i get that about the spell stuff. I normally don’t read books with magic in them.

No. i loved Zash. But then I like guys like him. I could marry Zash. (as long as he liked books. lol)

              I’m guessing you probably couldn’t?

I couldn’t marry Ivan. He’s a little too gentle for me.

            • @ellette-giselle

Yeah. It just felt a little weird since Christians normally try to stay away from stuff like that–but then, it had nothing to do with demons or anything. So idk.

Lolol. I don’t know–I would probably have to reread it. I think I preferred Ivan. But Alexei was better than them both, so I would pick him if he didn’t feel so much like a younger brother. xD

            • Haha! No I’m a Zash girl through and through. If I was ever tempted to have a book crush…….
I might like Fawkes better. I’m just not sure.
I did read somewhere that the author did the spell thing because it was going along with the theme of words having power. You know, the power of words that caused the downfall of the Romanovs, and the power of words of forgiveness. Idk. It may not be true, but it sounds like something she would do.

Oh, have you heard the song Once Upon A December? It was written for Anastasia Romanov. They ended up preforming it in a Broadway done about her. The Broadway singer is the best I’ve ever heard preform it. I can send it to you if you want.

            • @ellette-giselle (It’s not letting me reply to you anymore, so I have to tag I think)

Lol. Hmmmm, that’s interesting. I guess it kind of makes sense. Where did you see it?

I have not! Sure, I’d love to see it

            • @ellette-giselle

Oh, gotcha. It’s okay. Does sort of make sense though.

Oh, cool! She has a good voice. It sounds sad though 😢. I like the violin in the background.

    • @hybridlore

Yeah it is sad. But so’s her story.

It’s very russian sounding. I am partial to russian music. lol.

    • @hybridlore

Wait, when did you read that? I didn’t think I posted any.
