@theshadow for whatever reason it’s not letting me reply on that forum so I’m replying over here.
no, I don’t actually PLAY TF2, I’m not good at shooter games or anything and even if I were, I think TF2’s kinda on the violent side, plus all the hackers that have been running rampant in there since the source code leaked back in 2020 had made the game virtually unplayable by the time I learned about it. But I’ve gotten a little too much into the lore surrounding it lol. For this discussion, I’m going to assume you know at least the basics of the characters’ personalities and stories.
The thing that got me into it? A Minecraft animation of a bunch of villagers doing the famous Kazatsky Dance taunt. I looked up the background music and was like “Oh, this is actually kinda interesting.” I watched a couple of the official animations and was hooked. Hence why a screencapture of the Sniper graces my computer screen. (He’s my favorite. I love his voice.)
As for the fanfic side of things, Jaylen was originally designed as the twin sister of and a female version of the Scout (his actual name’s Jeremy according to canon, so I picked a name that matched). At some point, I decided she should just be her own class rather than a genderswapped version of an existing one. Hence, her class name Huntress and a separate skillset. She kept her relation to Scout though.

Interesting introduction to it lol (and your a Sniper fan too, which is cool, since he is one of the best characters XD). I like your Jaylen idea, hope to learn more about her in the RP.
I haven’t played TF2 either, but at one point my oldest brother was into it, and both managed to get us to learn about the characters and also somehow convinced us to dress as the characters for Halloween (which has changed again from Batman characters to TMNT lol).
HE IS THOUGH. I hate how much flak he takes for being the only long range class and thus THE target for hackers and aimbots.
what characters were you?? I feel like Scout and Sniper would be the only ones I could pull off. I can do a decent Soldier voice too, and although I don’t look anything like him I’d be willing to dress up as him simply so I can yell at all the other cosplayers lol

(Yelling at people would be fun XD). Oh, sorry, I think I miss typed, we were going to be it for Halloween this year I think, my bad. I was going to be the Sniper, coincidentally, and my oldest brother was I think going to be the Heavy or the Soldier (since he’s in the marines). I can’t remember who else everyone wanted to be, I think one of my younger brothers was going to go as the Scout, and another one of my older brothers was going to be the Engineer.
I know, it’s just horrible. Like stop hating him people, it’s not his fault!!
(Why am I so obsessed with the wellbeing of a fictional character?? Even if he is weirdly attractive? Don’t tell my mom I said that.)
anyway it’s a shame you never got around to doing it. TF2 characters are honestly really easy to cosplay as. (And if you happen to know any funny dances you can show them off.) I’d do it, but I’m not sure what the rest of my family would think. I got my brother into it—his favorites are Pyro and Soldier—but my mom and dad actually don’t know much about besides “I teleported bread.”and related meme phrases. (Idk if you saw the “Expiration Date” cinematic. It’s really funny, although there’s a particularly crude joke you’d have to skip a few minutes in, as well as the average curse words but honestly, if you can handle a Marvel movie you can handle that.) Honestly if I ever fully came clean about the whole thing, I think their reaction would be best described by a quote from our ol’ boy Sniper:
“I’ll be honest with ya, my parents…..do NOT care for it.”
Also, Engineer’s my other favorite character. I remember seeing his intro video and being like “huh. I like this guy.” While I again look nothing like him, I’d be willing to cosplay if it meant sitting in front of a campfire, pretending to play a guitar and spouting out his “more gun” monologue….lol
and if I did that I’d also try to sing something in the voice of which ever mercenary I happened to be dressed as, because the thing that really got me into it was listening to those goofy AI generated covers where they replace a singer’s voice with a character’s. I have a whole playlist of funny TF2 ones.
Don’t worry, I have found characters like Wirt from OTGW and other random characters to be attractive, so no judgement.
I wish we did do the cosplay, but my oldest brother wasn’t able to take leave for Halloween so we never got around to doing it unfortunately.
Also nice!! It’s always great to get siblings into something.
Although, it seems to be harder to get parents into things than friends sometimes….
Lol, cosplaying the Engineer would be so much fun (especially saying the monologue). He’s cool, but my second favorite is probably Pyro, mainly because I feel bad for him and I like fire.
I didn’t know there were TF2 AI covers, but honestly, I’m all for it XD.
lol good. yeah, Pyro’s honestly the cutest out of the group solely because he’s somewhere between “innocent” and “insane.”

He really is, which is a little morbid, but also kind of ridiculous at the same time. I will never forget his introduction lol.
And I wouldn’t mind at all if you posted the links, they sound intriguing.
I know, his intro video was so weird lol.
(I mean they all have a screw loose: Heavy treats his gun like a kid; Engineer sawed off his own right hand to make a better bionic one; while snipers in real life do in fact carry containers to answer the call of the wild in if they’re stuck in a position for hours, I’m pretty sure our Sniper’s the only one who will then use it as a grenade; Soldier and Medic are……completely off their rockers…..)

TF2 was what got me wanting to learn 3d animation. Someday I think I’ll animate a few of these songs as sort of a tribute.
It honestly makes me unreasonably happy there’s someone else in the world (besides my brother lol) who knows what I’m talking about. It’s the same with all my other obsessions…..There’s always at least one KPer I know which likes the same thing I do, and thus we can fawn over the characters and yak on about plot points and fanfics and whatever.

This happened to me today, and I decided to post it here cause you’re like the only person I know who’d get it lol:
So after church today, my family went to Mission BBQ for lunch. The place is themed after the American military, and when we got there my brother was like “Y’know, Soldier would probably love this place.” I agreed and then noticed there was an Outback Steakhouse across the street and pointed it out to him. He got my joke and snickered at it.
Then my dad, who was completely unaware of what we were talking about, goes, “oh look there’s a French bakery around the corner over there, I didn’t notice it before.” And at this point Ethan (my brother) and I just start laughing, and Ethan is like “What’s next, a KFC?” (referencing Scout’s obsession with fried chicken) and I point to the left and tell him that there is, in fact, a KFC over there cause I’ve been in this area before and have seen it. And we’re like besides ourselves with laughter.
And then Mom and Dad got a bit annoyed at us because we were being too loud and interrupted their important conversation. But it was so funny anyway.
Like the odds of everything lining up for that joke to work are, like, zero.
