New month, new theme!

This May, we will covering.....

Writing Descriptions and Imagery

Probably one of the biggest struggles of KeePers is writing description.

How do you write immersive descriptions that paint a vivid picture in the readers’ minds? How much description do they need? Too much can make the novel boring, yet too little can make the reader feel lost. And more often than not, descriptions can be dull and uninteresting to read.

So this month, we hope to clear up any confusion with writing descriptions, and set you, dear KeePer, on a clear path to being confident with writing descriptions.

Some topics we will be tackling this month are:

  • How to use the "show, don't tell" rule effectively
  • How to describe a fight scene
  • How to create tone and atmosphere in your story
  • How to describe emotions
  • How to write description from a first person point-of-view
  • The dos and don'ts of writing immersive description
  • Ways to practice writing better descriptions

In the meantime, check out some other articles on Kingdom Pen about description and imagery!

Also, let us know in the comments...

Which book or author do you think does a particularly fantastic job at description? What do you think makes it so good?
