Just wondering, what does being a writer mean to all of you and to your lives? Why do you write? How has being a writer impacted you? I apologize if I am repeating any old topics…
For myself, I like to say that I write because I can’t stop creating stories and characters in my head. I want to use my writing to impact readers and inspire them to find hope in their own lives, just as I’ve been impacted by stories. Through writing, I’ve been able to learn not only about myself, but about the world around me from perspectives I’ve never seen it from before. I’ve been able to enter new worlds and meet new characters who inspire me to live my life differently. Even though it can be really difficult and frustrating at times, I love writing, and it’s a part of me I never want to lose.
@wyn-rose Hm…I write because I take inspiration from the world around me, because I have stories to tell, because I want to touch other people’s souls and make them feel something.

If hours don't turn into daysFor me, writing is one of the most special and important things in my life, and becoming a writer was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I enjoy creating new worlds and new characters, breathing life into them, and watching their stories unfold, because really, the lessons that my characters learn are lessons that I learn, too. My characters have taught me to view the world through new perspectives, and they’ve helped me overcome my fears. And I feel like I’ve learned a lot about myself through them, just like you said.
For me, I write to teach myself valuable life lessons through the lives of my characters, and I also write so that I may teach my readers those same valuable lessons 🙂 And, in addition to that, it really makes me happy.
I agree with you, writing is a part of me that I can’t function without, and when it’s taken away, I feel a little emptier. 🙃 But it’s also because Jesus called us to spread his gospel, and
IÂwe can do it together. It’s a noble calling and I’m up for the challenge. 😉 Writing helps us do that and I’m never giving it up.what we do in life echoes in eternity

And my answer could take all day…maybe I should write a blog post about it.Being a writer means fulfilling God’s calling on my life. It means growing closer to Him and more aware of His power and more in awe of His love for me. It means reaching others, inspiring them, encouraging them, strengthening them, witnessing to them. It means being a vessel of the Holy Spirit and God’s word.
On a less spiritual note, it also means being me! 🙂 Even though I
hated writingdidn’t start writing until I was nine or ten, writing has become as much a part of me as my arm or leg! Without it, I’d be only half a person. It also means creating new worlds and people and stories. Having fun. Learning.ÂDriving myself crazy and obsessing over people who do not exist but are totally better than real people anyway.It even means falling in love.Thanks so much for starting this topic! 🙂
Being a writer is so much a part of me that if I wasn’t a writer, I’d literally be someone else.
To me, it means just about everything. To be able to mold worlds with the tip of a pen, to live with and fight with (or against) characters that become real, to be able to live hundreds of lives in one lifetime. And to do this to further God’s Kingdom.
I could probably go on about what writing is to me, but I’m presently writing a different novel;)Words hold power. They alter and influence people and how they think. (And sadly, we all know what type of ‘literature’ holds the bestselling shelves most of the time these days). I want to use that power to create truthful and impactful stories that alter others’ minds towards God. Stories that, even if people deny what’s written in them, they can’t forget the truths lying in the pages.
I want readers to live in my world that I create, even if it’s only for an hour.

Oh my goodness, this is such a good question. And I have a million things I could say to it, but I’d better just summarize. XD
I write because the written word is so, so powerful. It is a powerful tool for God and against Satan. There’s definite truth to that saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” It’s so true. Books have changed my life. First of all the Bible, which was written by the greatest Author. Then there’s To Kill a Mockingbird, which forever transformed my relationship with Jesus; taught me that he truly reigns over the world and he is merciful; and made me determined to do everything I can to stop racism. And the Two from Galilee series, which made me see Jesus as a real person and made me want to be friends with him.
And there are more. So many more stories that have changed my life, taught me glorious things, and brought me close to my God. I just ache and long to do the same for other people. I want to do everything I can to draw more sheep into the fold, and more citizens into the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven. Writing is one of the most powerful ways to do that, and to expose Satan and put him to shame.
I write Biblical fiction specifically because so many people are pushed away from God for these reasons: 1) Christians paint a picture of a vicious, judgmental God in the Bible; 2) They believe the Bible is a fairy tale; 3) They cannot connect with the Bible because they see its figures as distant, stone-statue people who could not possibly have been actual human beings.
So the reason I write Biblical fiction specifically is to show people that the God of the Bible is forgiving and loving, not vicious and judgmental. It’s to show them that the Bible is not a fairy tale, it’s the most dramatic and true story you could ever find. It’s to show them that Bible figures were real breathing people with feelings just like ours – they hurt, they loved and were loved, they despaired, they wept, they rejoiced.
Writing is just something I know God has called me to do, and he who has begun a good work in me will continue it until the end (Philippians 1:6).
@gracie-j Thank you so much! That’s amazing that you are trying to fulfill God’s calling through writing. I guess in the end, the reason we do anything should be able to be traced back to God and his calling for us.

The impact stories can have on others is really incredible, and it is so special to be able to create something that has the ability to impact even one other person in such an extraordinary way.
