What is your Ideal Writing Spot?
My dream writing spot would be high in a tree deep in a lavish green forest next to a creek in the spring. Now wait! Before you roll your eyes at me hear me out. Being outdoors, (and especially forests) gives me so much story inspiration. The smell of the fresh wooded air, the sound of the running creek, and the singing of birds is pure bliss. I also like climbing trees. (Though I haven’t been able to do that since I moved to Florida where there aren’t many climbable trees where I live.) XD
What is your dream writing spot? It could be in this world or in a fictional world.

Oh, this is an easy one! @kathleenramm I’ve always loved the woods myself, but there is only one thing that tops dusky forests and the smell of fallen leaves…
The beach. My dream writing place is by the ocean, and it’s ironic, because I hate the heat…and the sand…and the bugs…but I guess I kind of fantasize the ocean/beach simply because I love it so much. The sea breeze, the open waves, the long, lazy days, the moist summery nights. I can’t help it. I’m a coastal girl (technically, I’m a farmland girl, but I’m a beach girl at heart)! I would have an adorable little cottage (or, better yet, a lighthouse!) somewhere on the Atlantic Coast…if not in Cornwall, which has some of the prettiest beaches, like Driftwood Beach on Jekyll (so beautiful, BTW). I’d have a vintage/retro but still very nautical theme, with a huge porch right smack in the middle of the sand, and lots of windows. And I’d probably have a nice porch swing, where I would write while watching the autumn sun set over the Atlantic…ah…
But, I mean, if you wanna get down and dirty, I’d love to write in Scotland–the Highlands, land of my ancestors, to be exact. I’d love to breathe the air they breathed and feel the land they felt. See the sky they saw and be inspired by the land that had inspired them. Fortunately for me, Scotland has plenty of beaches of her own, so maybe one day… *cue wistful bagpipe music and dreamy sigh*
August 28, 2020 at 9:28 pm #84525@kathleenramm Honestly I’m not really picky about where I write, as I’ve written in places from my bed to closed airports to the side of the highway. But I think I would really like to write at a desk in a little room by a window that looks out to the sea. I live near the ocean, but here I’m talking about that romanticized type of beach/ocean thing. I don’t know. It’s hard to explain.
Lately, it's been on my brain
Would you mind letting me know

@devastate-lasting That’s exactly what I mean! I’m only two hours away from Jekyll and St. Simon’s (which, unfortunately, are not the world’s most beautiful beaches), but there’s just something about the ideal beach that just…I dunno…calls to my soul. That doesn’t sound weird, does it?
August 28, 2020 at 9:38 pm #84527@gracie-j Nah, I don’t think that’s weird. In the same way, having a beautiful blue sky that stretches out for forever also seems to call out to my soul. Unfortunately, I guess I can only write about such places XD.

@devestate-lasting Ah, that must be the true purpose of writing then, to answer the call as best we mortals can. Both the call of nature, adventure, and guys that are just unrealistically good-looking. (Or maybe that last one’s just me. 🤣)

@devastate-lasting *grins cheekily* I wouldn’t think so. 😉

I agree with about the beach! There is nothing like being in the middle of the ocean with deep blue water unfolding in beautiful waves as far as the eye can see. But however as much I like the ocean, I don’t think I’d be able to write there. At least not Florida beaches. In the summer the sand burns your feet and the water boils you alive, and in the winter, it’s crowded with tourists. A private island in the winter though… now that would be nice.
What beach do you live near?
August 29, 2020 at 2:16 pm #84535@kathleenramm It’s just a regular town beach off of the Atlantic. It’s not the prettiest, but it does have it’s charms during sunset.

@kathleenramm I’m from Georgia and the beaches we go to regularly are Jekyll and St. Simon’s, so I totally understand the not-so-perfect aspects of the beach, which is probably why I haven’t already drawn up a contract for a house on the island. 😉 Now a private island, or a beach somewhere in the cooler Northern European area (I have some relatives who live in Denmark and can attest to the fact that it’s so much nicer and cooler up there) would definitely be the better choice, albeit far more expensive.
@devastate-lasting The South Georgia beaches aren’t very pretty either. Jekyll is probably nicer than St. Simon’s (although St. Simon’s Island has a lot more history and probably more tourist attractions), and although most of the beaches are mediocre, Driftwood Beach is exceptionally beautiful. It’s usually pretty cool and shady, which makes it a top choice for wedding venues/photo shoots. It’s named for the huge trees that have washed up onto the beach (due to erosion) and cover the beach with giant trunks and limbs. And I’m rambling on about beaches, why? *shrugs shoulders noncommittally, realizing that her penchant for excessive chatting is in no way inhibited by the keyboard* 🤣 Pardon my talkativeness, y’all!
August 30, 2020 at 2:18 pm #84547My dream writing spot would be in a cabin in the CO mountains with a beautiful view, snow on the ground outside, a sweatshirt on, and plenty of hot chocolate to spare. I’m near Charleston SC where everything is too hot and humid, and for someone who loves snow, mountains, and sweatshirts it’s terrible.

ekseaver.wordpress.comSeptember 4, 2020 at 10:21 pm #84739I would like to write somewhere deep and dark. Like a deep and dark cave. Why? ‘Cause I feel ALIVE down here.
Flawless and handsome (as ruled by my grandmother.)

I find it very humorous that, when asked about the dream writing spot, the ladies respond very quickly with descriptions of beautiful and romantic places set with an amazing background and spectacular scenic views. And then, the first guy who shows up six days after the opening question paints a bleak picture of a dark cave set deep within the ground. (…   …   XD   …   …)
I, on the other hand, will do a mixture of the two, with a bit of a mournful twist, and a cherry jar on the side. The places I’d be would be either (believe it or not), in a small room in the tall tower of a tall mansion upon the cold brew of the Pacific coast. OR: Either Norway, Denmark, Finland, or Sweden. These, as one may imagine, contain some ancestral significance for me.
