Hi! The last several days I’ve been considering trying my hand at songwriting. But I have no idea where to start! I’ve started watching Dylan Laine’s videos on youtube about songwriting. Y’all have to check out her channel. The world needs more beautiful, innocent, clean songs like her! Here’s a couple links to her songs (note: I have listened to bits of all of her original songs, but have not heard all the lyrics yet):

So, anyway, if you could give me some tips and advice, I’d really appreciate it π

www.jennaterese.comApril 15, 2018 at 9:45 am #70906@jenwriter17 Go for it! Β Can you let us know what you come up with? π Β I like the lady in the videos. Β She seems sweet, and her voice is beautiful.
I am not much of a songwriter. Β I mean, I have written a few good songs with good tunes, but I don’t play any instruments or anything. Β My songs and tunes just come to me, like writing does.

April 15, 2018 at 3:14 pm #70908@jenwriter17, what type of help do you need? is it with finding the melody? getting the lyrics to flow? just getting lyrics in general? or something else?

April 15, 2018 at 6:09 pm #70917@alia I guess coming up with a melody and lyrics really. I want to be able to put the song to music from my piano or guitar too.
@ariel-ashira I’ll probably post some songs when I come up with them πI'm a Kapeefer 'TIL WE'RE OLD AND GREY!
www.jennaterese.comApril 15, 2018 at 7:45 pm #70922I have to admit, if you’ve watched a lot of those videos you probably know more than me, at this point.
I’d say…
1) Come up with a song idea (What you want your song to be about)
2) Think about the possibilities of that idea, or a question about it
3)Write your ideas down in verses and a chorus
4) Make a melody for it
You can also interchange writing the words and the tune if you want
@jane-mareeΒ and @jess-penrose Might be able to drop you a few tips, too π*Giarstanornarak tries to melt chair*

www.jennaterese.comApril 16, 2018 at 7:05 am #70931@jenwriter17 Alrighty then. More on songwriting! (thanksΒ @sam-kowal, yes I may be able to help.)
So, to be honest with you, the best way to write lyrics is to literally just write what is on your heart. Just write what you are thinking whether it is lament, praise, informing, or whatever you are feeling. See what sort of tune seems to flow from your melody instrument (piano) and then work out the chords with the chordal instrument (guitar). Then you can work on refining the lyrics and rhythm to make it flow a bit better and have a clearer structure. You also can go through melodic sequence with basic chord structures.
I hope some of that helps, I’ve been fairly broad because it is quite a broad topic.

I hope all of your songwriting goes well though! π
