I just wanted to announce that I’m opening up one of my books, a young adult allegory about creation vs. evolution in the church, for beta reading. I don’t know if anyone here is interested in beta reading, but if you are, you can visit my blog here and read a brief blurb about the book as well as the opening third of a page. I’m also willing to beta read someone else’s book in exchange for them going over mine. 🙂

September 26, 2015 at 7:23 pm #6020How long is your book, Hope? Schedules constrain us to ask such beastly questions. 😛
September 26, 2015 at 7:58 pm #6023I think I could manage that. Anyways, if I find I can’t, it will do no harm. And I’ll probably take you up on the beta-read exchange deal, though it won’t be for another year probably. I should warn you though, mine will be probably twice as long. If that seems unfair, you may of course temper your offer with a caveat on length, and I will oblidge.

September 26, 2015 at 9:32 pm #6026@kate-flournoy The book is around 75,000 words long (125 pages, give or take a little).
@Daeus I’d love if you could look my book over…especially to (hopefully) make my fight scenes realistic.
It would depend on what is going on in a year, of course, but I’d probably be able to look over a longer book. I have a book of my own which is nearly twice the length of King’s Armor. 😉 What kind of book are you writing?
Also, if you want me to e-mail you King’s Armor, could you contact me through my blog so that I can get your e-mail?INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
September 26, 2015 at 10:13 pm #6028Ok, wen’t ahead and did that. You should have my email now.
My book’s historical fiction, but it doesn’t have a large focus on the history, more the story. Its a long and complicated plot, so I won’t try to explain it now, but I personally love the plot and only hope my writing may match up to it.

September 27, 2015 at 9:10 am #6029@Daeus Well botheration but, thanks to you, after checking my e-mail I discovered my contact gadget wasn’t working. And probably hasn’t been working for quite a while for some reason. Anyway, I’ve made a contact page which I’ve tested and which does work. So sorry about that, but if I could just trouble you to resubmit your e-mail on that page…

September 27, 2015 at 12:10 pm #6030How many people do you want to beta read your book, Hope? Because I can’t say for sure, but I may be able to as well. Considering it is only 125 or so pages (which is an excellent length for a book; how do you do it? Mine end up five hundred plus!) I could probably squeeze it in. I’ll talk to my mom about it, and if she says we’ll be able to do that, I’ll be happy to offer a second opinion. I don’t currently have a book that needs beta reading, but if I ever need you to the return the favor I’ll ask. And now I’ve just gone and scared you to death by telling you how long my books are… that was not very smart, was it? 😛
But I don’t need a return favor, even if I did have one that needed beta reading. I know how helpful other writers are for beta reading, and I would be tickled pink to be able to help a fellow word wielder in whatever way I could.
September 27, 2015 at 12:17 pm #6031@kate-flournoy ‘word wielder’, I like that. 🙂
I like to get a few different opinions on my books…I don’t have an set number of beta readers (it’s pretty much anyone who’s interested). As for length, this book has grown at least 10,000 words since the first draft and I’ve another book that is about twice its length…and I can’t figure out how to cut it down. I don’t plan the word counts, they just happen. 🙂

September 27, 2015 at 1:16 pm #6034I like it too. 🙂
Okay, I talked to my mom, and she says we’ll have time for it. I can’t make any promises as to when I will have it finished for you, but hopefully it should be before the end of the year. We’re just starting to get back into homeschool after welcoming our tenth sibling into the home 😀 so the schedule is going to be really, really hectic and unpredictable for a while until we get back into routine. But I think I can do it.So… what info do you need from me? And could you post a link to your blog? Please?
September 27, 2015 at 3:50 pm #6036@Kate-Flournoy that works…and if you get too busy, that’s fine. Life happens. 😉 There’s a link to my blog in the first post (the blue ‘here’). Just contact me though the contact page…which should be working. I’ll get your e-mail that way and you can just say who you are and that you’re from here. 🙂

September 27, 2015 at 3:59 pm #6037Okey dokey. I did it. Thanks so much, Hope. I’m really looking forward to this. I read the first paragraph you had up on your blog, and… well… I’m hooked. You caught me. That can be a good thing, or that can be a bad thing. It depends upon your perspective, I suppose. 😉
September 27, 2015 at 4:50 pm #6038@Kate-Flournoy I got your e-mail. 🙂 I’ll send along the first part in the next few days. Glad you liked the first paragraphs…I just hope the rest of the story holds up as well. 😉
