So…I’d like some advice. I have about 20 pages of a book written (which doesn’t sound like much but it’s quite a bit for me :p) and it’s not going the way I expected/want it to, and not in a good way. To get it where I want it would probably take a rewrite, but I’m a bit hesitant to do that since I’m such a slow writer. I know this isn’t a lot of information to go on, but do you all think I should rewrite it–I’d keep the same basic premise, plot, and characters, all with a few tweaks–or just push through with what I’ve got?

@waterlily My advice is to ask yourself which is a higher priority to you: finishing the project, or rewriting it to closer match your vision.
I think teaching yourself to push through and finish things is important, but I also know that writing a story you’re unhappy with isn’t fun.
This may not work, but something I’ve tried before is to implement changes to the story as I go, and just keep on. When I’ve finished, I can then go back to the beginning and rewrite it to fit with the rest.

@introvert_girl Many thanks! I’ve been thinking about and especially after reading your advice, I think I’m going to stick with what I’ve got.

@waterlily If the story needs just a few tweaks, I’d push through and keep going with what you’ve got. Sometimes stories have a way of writing themselves, and sometimes characters do things that we didn’t plan for. It happens. I’d push through and keep going.

@waterlily you could also try writing an outline before you go any further, so that you know where you want your story to go and you can steer it there. In my personal opinion, I would just keeping going with what you have, but that’s your decision. Pray about it and then do what you think is best.
