Hi Friends,
I need to come up with a name for a writing school to host my courses under.
I’ve come up with Excelsior Writing School. What do you think? I like it, but I’m not committed to it.
If you have any other suggestions, I’m open to them. π

November 21, 2017 at 12:06 pm #54127@Daeus oooh, I really like the idea behind Excelsior, but most people are probably just going to go… ‘huh? Sounds like some weird Latin elitist club or something… *yawns**scrolls past*’
So… maybe something slightly less high and lofty and a little more down-to-earth. (Can’t believe I just said that.) I can’t think of anything right off the top of my head, but I’ll be pondering it. π

@daeus, I wasn’t sure what excelsior meant, so I looked it up…but the definition I found confused me. How would you define it?
November 21, 2017 at 12:24 pm #54130Hi @daeus π
Uuuuhhh
You know, I actually really like “Excelsior,” but I kind of agree with @kate-flournoy people might go “huh?”
I have a LONNNGG history with making too-complicated names.
(I once made an imaginary world with over fifty countries, all named things like “Ejapania” and “Exenlite”. I also begged my parents to name one of my siblings “Alalea,” and was determined if I was a parent to name my children Atilike and Cexcivercex. Okay, I admit this was when I was a bit younger…)
Soo Anyways, something like “Excendiatarolukiaxs School of Writing” sounds great to me if you don’t go with Excelsior.
Or you could go with something more boring, like
“Daeus Lamb’s Super Awesome Writing School” or
“The Institute for Ink” or just
“Daeus’s Writing School” or… I can’t think of anything better than Excelsior though

Yeah. I have no idea. You’d think a former fantasy writer would have a dictionary replete with such names, but I’ve never had a strong suit for that.
Only things I can think of are:
1) Lamb Technique School… [another loki facepalm please]
2) Writing School of Excellence
3) Lamb Literary AcademyThere. Five cents.

Thanks. The one argument in favor of Excelsior is that people don’t have to know what it means right off the bat. I’m not selling the school, I’m just going to sell courses. (Shannon, Excelsior means “onward”. It connotes perseveranceΒ and victory.)
That said, I could think of a few small reason’s it’d still be nice to have a basic name.
How about “Write Better Academy”?

November 21, 2017 at 1:14 pm #54139@daeus If you’re going to do Write Better Academy, then you have to do ‘Write More Better Academy.’ That’ll sell people, won’t it? π

November 21, 2017 at 1:16 pm #54140@Daeus I like that… not as much as Excelsior though.
Ugh. Decisions decisions.
You know what? I’m going to just throw caution to the winds and say go with Excelsior. I can’t think of anything I like better or even as well as. If you can think of a tagline of sorts to go with it though, so it’s more clear what it means and what it’s for, that could be really beneficial.
November 21, 2017 at 1:50 pm #54143@daeus maybe a mix of both? Like, Excelsior Academy for Excellent Writing? Or Excelsior School of Writing Technique?

Also, Daeus has 22 turtles in his signature.November 21, 2017 at 1:53 pm #54144@daeus Exelsior Writing Academy has a nice ring to it, for what it’s worth. π
Hmmm…Β Kingdom Writing Academy? That goes along with the theme of the website. However, if it’s just going to be onΒ thisΒ website, that would be repetition. Overall I like “Excelsior.”
Never heard that name before! Maybe you could have a motto or tagline that tells what the word means. Like “Victory” or “Onward, writers” or something like that.
Ohhh, or simplyΒ Onward Writing Academy! Maybe π
You can pronounce it however you want.

@daeus I like Sam Kowal’s idea.
βThe Institute for Inkβ
But I think I like “The Inky Academy better.” Other than that, Exelsior Writing Academy is great.

@daeus, Ok, that makes sense! I kinda like @sam-kowal’s idea of “Excelsior Academy for Excellent Writing”. It might be too long and complicated though…I knowest not. However, I like Excelsior a lot, and I think you should definitely use it.

@daeus Oops! I meant to say, “The Inky Academy”.
November 25, 2017 at 3:02 pm #54473@daeus if youβre still trying to decide…what about βThe Ink Instituteβ? (Off of @sam-kowalβs idea)
