I have not finished this book, (so Disclaimer if the content suddenly goes down from here, lol.) but it’s been fascinating so far!
If you like C. S. Lewis’s writing, literature, or even anthropology, I present The Medieval Mind of C. S. Lewis by Jason Baxter. (There is a lovely audiobook by the way) Basically a study of the philosophies that shaped C. S. Lewis and the values with which he saw Books(especially old philosophy or thoughtfully pieced fairytales) and the world in general. So far my favorite part is the chapter on “The dark enchantment.” It reflects on how he felt modern culture often trues to scrape thin our longing for our eternal home. Which in turn takes a deep look at how we are taught literature, values, and how important language itself is. Plus it’s quite humorous, full of quotations from Lewis’ writings, lighthearted critiques on some of his favorite authors, and even anecdotes from personal letters.
It really makes you think again about how important stories are, but not just stories. Heartfelt stories that help us taste immortal concepts. Myths. True myths like the Gospel accounts, and fanciful ones like fairytales.
So yeah. Go read it if it sounds interesting. If not, go read something else wholesome and encouraging. Maybe Narnia or Screwtape?
