      Hey Y’all

It’s time to rant about one of my projects (I have many but this one has taken a special place in my heart)
And some of Y’all know it… If you remember Tomorrow’s War… well it’s changed a lot. AKA completely, to the point where only the characters’ names remain, (Actually I changed one of the names…)

But I still love this story, and there’s still a lot of worldbuilding that I need to figure out

      But here’s the blurb

Some called the midnights heroes others called them villains, but truthfully they were just kids.

Kirion was once a somewhat civilized planet, but as evil forces arose, it fell into ruin. That is until the midnights came along, a group of teens and adults with powers, all fighting for one cause.

But nowadays, the midnights are only helping the dictator Keith Flynn. A man whose one goal is power, only his soldiers aren’t working for him out of choice yet out of mind manipulation

So here’s a few things to note

The midnights are the organization, the agents themselves are called stars

Elites are the opposing side (the good side)

In the world, Keith is a terrible leader, let’s just make that clear, but that’s not the main reason why the elites are trying to stop him, It’s because they want to rescue the stars

Also Skylar, Nash, and Evelyn are the most powerful, Skylar having ice powers, Nash has weather powers, and Evelyn has telekinesis powers, so before Evelyn and Nash left the midnights they were Keith’s best and favorite agents, Skylar is still with the midnights… she has the saddest arc

So I’ll be posting each character’s profile below

And feel free to ask questions because I’m very new to ranting about my own books

Also, there are two main struggles for me, 1. Should Christianity be in it? Like should God exist in this world? I don’t know the whole powers and Jesus thing is hard for me to feel okay with, so my plan was to do what C.S. Lewis and Tolkien did, making it the fight between good and evil, but I’m nervous it won’t impact people the same way
Second, where should the powers come from, like it’s from experimentation I feel like I should make it clear how they got it

Like was it from some crystal, a serum, I have absolutely no clue

So any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated

So you’ve changed it a lot then!! At least from what I remember of your previous work XD And I like how clear-cut the heroes and villains are. Gives you a lot of solid plot material to work with.

        1. Actually I want to make a topic on this, which I will tag you for 😉 Maybe it will help you find an answer.

        2. Well in a lot of superhero stories the powers come from a variety of things. I guess it would depend on each of your characters’ individual backgrounds. If they were all experimented on, the origin stories would all be pretty similar, but it would be cool if they were each a little different.

That’s all I got right now XD I’ll stick around tho!

Interesting. So for the question of whether or not you want Christianity in it, all I can honestly say is that’s entirely up to you. If this were me, I would put in all sorts of Christian themes, and perhaps even correlations to the atonement, but I wouldn’t get into it deliberately. It simply depends on what you want as a writer, and who you perhaps want to read it. Sense this is a different planet, Christ wouldn’t have died there (unless you want him to), and that could be something interesting to explore if you do want to get into it. Are these people aware of a need of a Savior, are they aware of Earth where said Savior may have taken on their sins? Does this atonement even apply to them? Perhaps Earth doesn’t even exist at all in this universe, and therefore neither would the Christ we know would be, but perhaps there could still be a God and a Savior, or just a God, or even gods. The question is what do you want to explore, and what do you want to convey to the readers. If you do implement Christianity directly, how does that influence the world and choices of the existing characters.

If you want to avoid all of that and just explore good and evil, another thing you can get into is answering the question, what even is good and evil? So many show that battle, but what are the two sides really? Many think it is subjective. Most Christian faiths believe it is, but many don’t even know how to define it. So that can be something you can explore a little, perhaps some of your own thoughts on it, or some more broad ideas.

All of my ideas I’ve given so far are inherently philosophical, and that might not be your cup of tea, so don’t feel pressured into explore any of these things. That’s just some of my thoughts.

As for your second question, that’s again entirely up to you. There’s thousands of creative ways you could do that. In Reckoners, a strange deep red starlike object rose into the sky, then the Epics started appearing, seemingly random individuals developed superpowers of all kinds, but everyone that did became unforgivably evil. People ask the questions like, where did the powers come from? What is that new star? Are they connected? Why are all the Epics evil? Were they already evil, just with powers now? Did becoming an Epic turn them evil? Ect? So in this case, none of these are known, at least not at the beginning, but all is answered over time. You can do something similar, where it is simply a mystery, and that alone is a perfectly valid answer as well. If you want to know from the get go, perhaps it could be experimentation, but experimentation with what specifically? What were the goals, and were they met, or did something go wrong? If you want to explore Christianity, perhaps these are divine gifts, if so, why would such gifts be given? Or perhaps they are witchcraft made for evil purposes.

He is perfect in Justice, yet He is perfect in Mercy, even when we fail Him. For this, He is good.

@thearcaneaxiom (I enjoy talking philosophy and all that so thanks for the input) @whalekeeper *Coughs* yeah… I changed a lot

but I feel that I now have a stronger plot

So I think I feel like I’m going to take the approach of good and evil and make God not exist in this universe, but still put Christian themes in here

Although I don’t think I’ll be sacrificing anyone like Aslan in Narnia, I feel like that’s a theme that can be very easily done wrong

            For my second question, your guys’ answers help immensely, and I have quite a few ideas, I’ll make sure to post the power system once I get it completely figured out (;

              @everyone

here’s what I have figured out so far

Every century the stars align and create a beam so strong, to create the strongest of powers. Through the beam, crystals will be made, and those crystals will then fall to earth, to someday be discovered. John and Keith had been the ones to discover those crystals, which had lay on earth for decades prior to their discovery. Because they had been discovered so late, much of the power had drained. Yet the power from these crystals was still very powerful. They then gave these powers to eligible teens who had signed up for the experiments.

Since the rift, Keith has taken order from the world, but he knows that some of the fallen stars are still out there, and he’s nervous about the powers they have.

But both sides of the rift figure out something of great importance. The time of the star aligning is happening again, this year.

I like how it’s changed!! 😊 I really like the new story, and I feel as if the characters will be even more well thought out with this new plot and story.

For your story (and this is still TOTALLY up to you, keep in mind) I think a battle between Good vs Evil is a more fitting representation of God, and I’ll definitely second @thearcaneaxiom in that it will be very important that you set what Good and Evil are, and let there be no morally gray things that are “OK”.

Light and Darkness cannot coexist, so making a thick line between Right and Wrong will be VERY important, especially when God isn’t exactly shown in your story in a different way.

But you can do it with God’s guidance <3

As for the 2nd question, I think doing the crystal thing is a pretty interesting concept 😉

Either way, I’m super excited to see where you go with this! You’ve got this, girl!! 💗👏💗

Thanks for the input, I’m still definitely trying to figure that out… XD plotting is hard

                  @everyone

                  Time for the first charrie

                  Nash!!!!

                  Nash (20)

Charming, flirtatious, and introverted, he hides behind his humor, so if he’s upset he’ll annoy everyone around him, Caring, even if he bothers or teases you he’ll still stand up for you, brave, acts confident even those he’s pretty insecure, and he has weather powers

Nash and Evelyn were best friends from the start, and they even got to train together and work together. Thankfully they were a part of the branch that was saved from the mind control pretty early on. Yet they were able to do quite a bit of damage while Keith had them.

Both with guilt and no want to be soldiers again, they go on their own to hide basically. But when Lucas and Kira pull them in with a package of important information, they have no choice.

And Nash finds himself working with a bunch of people he has no interest in.

                  Spoiler alert

In the end, Nash ends up being taken by the Stars and turned into a soldier again

When Evelyn finds him again, he pushed her away, ashamed by everything he did

                  Spoiler over

                    Evelyn (20)

Caring, outgoing, insecure, compassionate, slow to forgive, has telekinesis and telepathic powers, a daydreamer, an adventure seeker, has strong emotions

Evelyn was Keith’s favorite, one of the most powerful, he pushed her and everyone feared her. And they still do, they still blame her, which is why she and Lucas usually only go to desolate places

But when brought into the mission, She finds that her and Lucas are the only ones who can keep up with Skylar

                        Skylar (21)

She doesn’t really have a personality since Keith’s mind control only gives the soldiers two emotions, Happiness, and Anger, but she still has a comedic side, which is through snarky and sarcastic comments, She’s also pretty upbeat and always looks on the bright side and she has ice powers

She and Tristan work side by side for Keith, and they even form a romantic relationship

Now for the rest of her story, it’s going to be a huge spoiler warning for my book series

                        Spoiler

Skylar probably would’ve been a great Elite after they took out her chip, but Tristan was the first to get his chip removed, and Skylar was doing everything in her power to stop them. Lucas (who’s still upset about everything they did to them after they captured him) Shot at him

but Tristan even though he’s no longer mind controlled takes the beam for her, because he still loves her

Skylar manages to shed a single tear through the mind-controlled, but from there she just feels anger over all of the elites, and even though Keith is gone, she continues it into the next book

and now through the chip, she has control over her mind, and she’s able to control her grief, making herself honestly think nothing has happened and she didn’t just lose the one person she had in her life

                        Spoiler over

                          Alex (19)

strong, confident, flirty, independent, and stubborn

                          has fire powers

Alex was a tough soldier, but no one thought much of her, but now she proves herself as an elite everyday. Sadly when freed from the branch, she was unable to rescue her brother from the midnights. She has even found herself fighting against him, and he of course has no memory of her. But she continues with her cause, knowing that one day she’ll be able to save him.

                          her brother is… Tristan

                            Tristan (22)

Confident and cocky, caring, protective of those he cares for

                            has super strength and speed

                              Austin (20)

Gentle, Shy, insecure, nervous, techy, yet playful and amusing

                              has the ability to fly

Since he was a part of the first branch to be rescued, he didn’t do any work for Keith, but instead helped form the Elites. He’s also very nervous around Alex, mostly because he likes her.
