I have a ton of questions about writing and I’m sure you guys do to. This space can be used to ask all the questions we have and we all can try to answer them.💗

My #1 question is… On a few online writing classes, I have had a couple of writing teachers each had a different opinion on what book you should work on. One said “only work on the book you are working on and never stop until you are done.” And the other said “write all sorts of different stories and file them, and take them out when you feel like working on them.”

I feel like both are somewhat good advice. I think working on one book at a time is good, but if you get burnt out on it, take a break. Writing a whole bunch of books at once can be good but overwhelming. What do you guys think?

I think it really depends on who you are

If you’re a multitasker than you shouldn’t need to limit yourself

But if you struggle with distractions than it might be harder

I am a multitasker, because I have like 80 fanfics XD and two novels

I work on two at a time, and I switch between them to prevent burnout. I do stints of one or the other to make sure I make some progress sometimes though. Like one month, I could write 6k for one book. If you spread yourself too thinly you won’t make any progress, but I don’t think working on only one book until it’s done is the only way to go.

A forum all about questions… where have I seen that?🤔 Eeh, probably nowhere, right?😂

I would say that it depends on who you are. If you are say, Brandon Sanderson, then handling 10 books at a time won’t overwhelm you, but we are not all Brandon Sanderson. If you are J.R.R Tolkien, then using your life to perfect a single project is won’t cause burnout, but we are not all Tolkien. We all function in different ways, so just take the time to figure out what your system is.

I agree with everyone else. It really depends on your style, and how you function. I have a lot of WIPs, but I tend to focus on one at a time.

*shrugs* Doesn’t sound familiar to me. 😂

I say just do whatever works for you. I mainly work on one WIP, but I have tons of others that are either just ideas floating around in my brain or have been manifested into moodboards. XD They are there if I get tired of my current WIP and want to work on something else. I just have to make sure I don’t get too distracted. 😉
