So I was inspired by where I am now – and that is Family Camp, a church activity all the way out here in the forest.
(It’s a super relaxed vacation, and very kid-friendly. You can go out to the hotel lobby barefoot, in pajamas, brushing your teeth, dragging a slobbering four-year-old with you – and you’ll barely get a second glance 😂)
Anyway, I have recently been reminded of the blessing of family!
Here, you can post your character’s family members\situation. Tell us their relationship dynamics, quotes, aesthetics, physical descriptions, all the things ❤
Now… I know what you’re thinking. Whaley, don’t ya pay attention to the times? We got like a million sad back-stories here, and cooking up a few more. Would you like a side of angst with that? – what about the evil families??
And to that, I say, hey, that’s not what I’m asking for. I’m talking about family, not a pile of biological relatives. (Although, I appreciate biological families that are not broken.)
So talk about your charrie’s real family! All the things ❤

July 4, 2023 at 11:21 pm #149523Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I love this forum already
So… what family should I start with
let’s go into my newest family (based on my new WIP Hope in the Horizon) This family has uh… some issues but in the same way they still love each other, it just took another death to make them realize that
so the Ellis family was strong, in the past but events happened. Twins (more like best friends) Sister and Brother grew up hanging out and always together (they bickered but they loved each other) the brother fell in love with the sister’s other best friend, and they grew up and got married, and so the sister got married, and… the sister had a girl and a year after that the brother had a baby boy, a year after that…
the sister had another daughter… but in that same year, there was a car accident
and the brother was lost, his wife (the sister’s best friend) and the sister, threw blame around, but truthfully behind all the arguing
was a girl who missed her husband
and a girl who missed her brother
the mother of the brother, just enclosed to herself, refusing to see her grandkids, and then a few years later there’s another car accident, killing the sister and her husband,
the best friend takes in the three daughters of the diseased parents
there’s the first half (let me catch my breath and then I’ll write the second part)

-ThorneJuly 4, 2023 at 11:28 pm #149526Yes! I’ve been waiting for an excuse to rant about Jack’s family!
(Also, church family camp is so nostalgic. I used to go get hot chocolate from the lodge late every night when we were there.)
Jack is a kind of shared character with a friend of mine. He lives on a farm with his parents and his two little siblings: Cody and Kit.
Instead of rewriting everything about them, I’m just gonna copy and paste the character descriptions I posted a while ago.
So first there’s Jack (last name tbd). He is the eldest of the three siblings and is somewhere between ages 17 to 19. He has blonde hair and skin tanned dark from the sun. He takes care of the sheep on the farm because, in his brother’s words, “he’s strong and brave and he ain’t scared of no foxes or howlers.” Because of this, he carries around a shepherd’s crook which he occasionally uses to bonk his annoying siblings on the head and make the behave. Jack spends almost all of his time working and watching the sheep, so he doesn’t have any friends his age in town. He is content, though, and enjoys his work and being with his family.
Next up is Cody, who is most likely the main character. Cody is the mediator middle child who is often breaking up fights between his brother and sister or trying to take the blame for something he didn’t do just to avoid conflict. He is generally very sweet and gullible. His siblings tease him often for being so naive, but they actually love him for it. Despite teasing him constantly, his siblings are both very protective of him, Jack especially. On the farm, Cody usually follows his father around to help him with chores and to learn how to do the chores by himself when he is older. In his free time, he likes to play with the animals, especially the barn cats, which were all named by him.
And sibling number three is Kate. Kate was the surprise child and continued to surprise people throughout her whole life even after she was born. She helps her mother around the house, but she has a lot more free time than her brothers do. In this free time she tends to get into a lot of trouble with a group of rowdy kids from town who she considers her friends. When she isn’t doing that, she is usually aggravating Jack and saying he “wouldn’t dare hit a girl.” Unfortunately for her, if pushed enough, he does dare, and that is usually where Cody comes in.
So, yeah! That’s his family.

#ProtectSebJuly 5, 2023 at 12:34 am #149530But before I discuss them all being together….
I need to discuss them individually, and the families they’d found before they found each other! (The one’s that had good families or found good family figures 😊)
Ara
Ara’s family is very much based off of mine because going into it I knew I wanted Ara based off of me, so I wanted her family based off of mine.
A wonderful family, and while not perfect, basically….they’re great. I wanted her to have her struggles even though she has a wonderful family, because that’s how I am. I have a great amazing family, but I still struggle, but a lot of times people in fiction or books, with great families, seem to have no cares in the world (or the peoples with struggles always have terrible families) and I wanted to show that good, righteous, godly families are out there and REAL!
Ara’s family as of rn consists of-
Her Abba, Emyr Fabel
Ima- Sophiya Fabel
Dohd (Uncle)- Daniel Fabel
Saba (Grandpa)- Isaac Fabel
Her Safta (grandma) is deceased, but they were extremely close.
Ara’s family are considered “royalty” but not in the way some might think. They are the chosen leaders of A’Grend, sanctioned by the Light One to lead the safe haven He set up for His people, and all who seek refuge, but they do not dictate or rule over. All true rulership and authority comes from the Light One himself, and the Fabels are honored to serve Him.
Isaac and his wife, the original founders (alongside the Light One) of A’Grend, led the Light’s people to safety during a time of great turmoil and persecution, and were blessed because of it. Being only a teenager, The Light still entrusted this duty unto him and his family.
Honorable, gracious, compassionate, but also daring, loyal and eager to fight for the truth, Isaac and his wife passed on their values and nature to their sons, Daniel and Emyr.
Daniel, the first born, had no interest in becoming the next king, and through prayer and guidance, the rulership was passed to the second born, Emyr.
Emyr is lighthearted, adventurous and daring, differing slightly from his more mature brother, but he passes down this spirit to his daughter, Ara.
He and his wife Sophiya are a constant light to her path, and they always have a spring to their step no matter the trials.
Sophiya, a woman of grace, beauty and virtue, has taught Ara how to be herself even when everyone doubts her, and to trust the Light’s guidance, even in the bleakest of nights.
Ara’s Dohd is the Judge of A’Grend, the spiritual leader of their kingdom, and the wisest person Ara knows, besides her own Saba. He’s taught her all the book knowledge she knows now, and everything she knows about the worlds outside, and the kingdom within, along with helping her develop a closer relationship with the Light One, and being a confidant when she needed one.
And Saba…
Saba…well…Is Saba! The adventurous, jovial man always has a gleam in his eye, and seems to always know what the girl is thinking. He never ceases to make her feel better, and no matter what she’s done, she knows that Saba’s love for her will always run deeper.
Ara and her Safta were extremely close, and Ara has her to thank for the strength she has later down the road, and some of the adventurous spirit and warrior blood within her that rises up as she grows. Her Safta taught her how to listen to the Light’s voice, in the silence and the storm, and that true courage is doing things even when she’s afraid.
😭 ARA’S FAMILY IS SO GREAT!!! RIGHT?!

#ProtectSebJuly 5, 2023 at 12:39 am #149531oh!! I forgot!!
Ara also had a handmaiden named Annalise. She calls her Anie, though. (Anie comes from a mix of races, so she has pixie wings)
More than a handmaid, Anie was like a sister to Ara, who never had any siblings (until Pax of course) and was a true friend and confidant (besides November.) Spunky, adventurous and a bit mischievous, Anie was always willing to push Ara a bit past her limits, and also help get her out of trouble quite a few times.

#ProtectSebJuly 5, 2023 at 12:40 am #149532So uh… the second part
So the sisters get invited to stay with their grandma for the summer, a few months after their parents’ death
the Grandma realizes she wants to see her grandkids before anything happens (I’ve debated giving her an illness but I’m not sure yet)
Adrian the boy that had been the Brother’s son wasn’t originally invited (because it felt too painful) but she ended up inviting him (Adrian struggle with feeling like he was not wanted and this only proves it more) Poor boy
But now the Bestfriend (or the wife of the brother) at some point has to heal things between her mother in law
Sorry if this got really complicated XD

Awww, girl, tell me about Cody!!! I thought Jack was the MC 🤔
Ah, yes, I ❤ sweet royal families!! All the role models 😊 So important. Have you thought about giving her siblings?

July 5, 2023 at 5:34 pm #149666Thankfully they will fix it up, but it’s going to take a while
one of the focuses of the book, is how to handle grief in a healthy way

-ThorneJuly 5, 2023 at 5:39 pm #149670Here is Dogchild’s family!
So he does not go by any specific nicknames – everyone has a different name for him, and he doesn’t like to choose one – but his family members each have nicknames, hiding their real names, which have power over them.
Dogchild lives with his family on the beach. His father owns a restaurant on the seaside, and the Dogchild finds odd jobs – at the hotel, lifeguarding (rarely), or taking care of carousel rides or shops. They together support the rest of the family, backing each other up when work is messed up, or anger stirs.
The family consists of six (or eight, if you count the two relatives) members. They are soft-spoken, thoughtful, and rather dignified compared to some of the other local dogchildren. Considered the role model for some family units on the boardwalk.
They have very Christian undertones, and are quiet and peaceful in the face of suffering. Their home is a safe little place.
Atlas – The father. A strong build, with solid brown fur. He is supportive of his son, and treats the Dogchild like the second man of the house. He speaks rarely, preferring to listen in on conversations behind the restaurant bar. Part of an underground organization of peacekeepers, who protect dehumanized Dogchildren.
Dove – The mother. Light brown fur, with a long nose prone to smelling out the naughtiest of children. She is gentle and relaxed, and spends a lot of time watching the children out on the beach. Was raised in the city.
The Dogchild Himself – Oldest, and only brother. Caramel brown fur, a white collar, and blue-brown-mixed eyes. The most silent of the family, using mostly nonverbal cues. Responsible to the point of sacrificial brother-love. Extremely polite, to the point where no one knows what he actually thinks.
Bright – First sister. Golden fur, mixed with patches of white. Almost grown out of pup fluff. She loves her older brother, but thinks he needs to become more active emotionally. Obedient, but restless. She has a hard time believing things will stay the same.
Saltie – Second sister. Smoky brown fur, almost gray, and quite short. Super long, thick whiskers. Her teeth being constantly compared to a crocodile’s, she is almost always grinning. Enjoys mud and action. Most talkative. Would adore exploring a swamp.
Blanche – Cousin, visits often in the summer. White, fluffy fur, and small ears. The family jokes that she cannot listen to anyone, and could sleep through a tsunami. City pup. Delicate and sometimes sickly.
Pigeon – Dove’s much younger brother. Light gray fur, very spiky and messy. Digs around in dumpsters as a hobby. But as a rule, he is still polite, popping his head up to apologize for literally nothing at random moments. Has dog paws, unlike the rest of the family, who have human hands.
Aaaand the baby, who comes in partially through:
Orca – Tiny baby girl pup. Black fur, plastered to her fully doglike body. You could fit her in a shoebox. As a newborn, she is blind and deaf, with a cute little snuffling nose. Personality to be determined.

“Everything is a mountain”
July 5, 2023 at 5:41 pm #149672Well… we haven’t really come up with much of a plot yet, but yeah Cody is probably going to be the MC. Jack is just my favorite. 😊
Cody is really cute. He has freckles and and a strong country accent (as does the rest of the family) and he also has long, droopy pointed ears that poke out of his really fluffy hair.
He tends to be a bit naive at times and that gets him into trouble. He loves people and animals… and yeah! That’s all I can think of to say about him rn.
