Hello!! I thought it would be fun to talk about things that helped inspire our WIPs or give us some inspiration.

I know for me especially, I pick out certain songs that fit different characters, so I can get in their heads before I start writing them. I know this can be distracting sometimes, but if you do it before time it can work really well.

Probs my favorite way to get into a story is to create character aesthetics. So, anything that has catched my eye recently in my real life – like yellow sneakers, melty sunsets, or the feeling of sand in your sea cottage bedsheets – kind of melds together into the senses that I have of a special character.
Sooo, for example, I have this heroine named Thorn. She was inspired by floppy hats, Monet paintings, the feeling of summer floating over a sidewalk crack, filled with grass and flowers – and Indiana Jones.
All the things! <3

I was inspired for my story by a few things. My characters and aesthetics are so fun, Coming Home by Max Lucado inspired a special island and helped develop my plot, my world was inspired by Aerwiar and Kumandra (frow the Wingfeather Saga and Raya and the Last Dragon), and also looots of songs lol

Oooh, story inspo!
I get mine from other books and movies a lot! And to keep my inspiration going (if that makes sense… XD) I make moodboards/aesthetic boards for my characters and my books. (Example at bottom of post)
I used to listen to music as I wrote, but I don’t do that as much anymore. But I do pick songs that carry the mood/aesthetic/theme for my book or charrie.
(Here’s the moodboard example. This is for my WIP the Endoxos Trilogy. [I could also show you some charrie moodboards if you’d like. 😏😁])

April 21, 2023 at 2:39 pm #140835That’s cool! I’d love to see some charries.
Also, what do you make your moodboards with?

April 21, 2023 at 2:45 pm #140842Thx! I’ll post my MCs moodboards in the art forum. I’ll tag you. 😉
I make my moodboards with an app literally called Moodboard. There are a few things that I don’t like about it though. Sometimes, the pics don’t go all the way to the edges, so there will be a thin white line, but I just crop that out once I download it. Another thing, is that if I come back to a board (finished or unfinished) some of the pics will be gone. It can be annoying, but it doesn’t do that all the time. Those are the only complaints I have about it, but it works for me. I think @godlyfantasy12 uses Bazaart and @freedomwriter76 uses Microsoft Publisher (you’ll have to check with her on that one.)

I’m inspired by a lot of things, but usually it’s people who help me come up with my best ideas. Especially little kids. Some of my favorite story ideas came from me playing outside with my little cousins or hearing them talk about their lives and the things they like to do.

April 21, 2023 at 4:06 pm #140855A lot of my inspiration comes from history. I also get inspired a lot by ideas from other books as has been already mentioned.

@Smiley My inspiration for Paradise Lie actually came from AIO (Adventures in Odyssey). Particularly Novacom.

I’m Sarafini recent homeschool graduate, writer of most every genre except romance and horror. You can find out stuff about my WIP Paradise Lie on the thread titled: Paradise Lie book (it really should be series) uncovered. I’m about to post on it now so you’ll see it if you go to recent topics. 😉
