I thought it would be helpful to have a forum to ask for input on miscellaneous names, or even character names, if Fantasy Name Generator has failed you for the last time, or you’re sick of Googling 3 mile long NameBerry articles (who knew there were roughly 2 million Irish girl names that mean “blessed”?[not an actual figure: using for humorous purposes])!
But it’d be a go-to forum for things like
- Animal names
- Town names
- Alien race names
- Mountain/valley/plain/river/lake etc. names
- Fictional disease names (we all know it comes up!)
- And any other bizarre name needs that arise!
P.S. If there is already a forum for this and I haven’t seen it, feel free to direct me to it, and disregard this as a mildly amusing but unnecessary post, such as only a newbie would create.
January 20, 2023 at 7:39 pm #129562thanks for the great topic! I have to many places that need names XD book 2 is a travel story, so yeah… the need is basically endless and I haven’t even come up with all the locations. I’ve got the one that’s almost done, which sounds better?
Vieridelle Ruins (pronounced Veeridelle)
Vieridale Ruins (pronounced Veeridale)
Preference anyone?

January 20, 2023 at 8:41 pm #129563Thos are both great! I like Vieridelle Ruins better!

January 20, 2023 at 9:00 pm #129567This is a good idea! I don’t know of a topic already started for names, so this should be fine. 😉
I love coming up with names and I’ll be glad to help if anyone needs any!
I think either one would be fine but my personal preference is Vieridale Ruins.
He must increase, but I must decrease.
January 20, 2023 at 9:05 pm #129570I think my vote goes to Vieridelle Ruins, @mineralizedwritings!

January 20, 2023 at 9:06 pm #129571I think it depends on what the ruins are of! If it was really elegant and majestic before it was ruined, I’d think Vieridelle, but if it was more of a simple but lovable village, I’d say Vieridale. If you’re leaning more mysterious, I think stick with delle.

January 23, 2023 at 11:27 am #129729I asked this on CWW, but I’ll put it here, in case someone is interested. I need a name for an evil uncle. He is the deuteragonist’s caretaker (for a short while). A general of sorts, he wears a gold uniform, a rapier, crystal-inlaid boots, and has a icy white, coiling mustache.
And by the way, he has a foil, who ends up being the deuteragonist’s caretaker for the majority of the rest of the book. The foil’s name is Reu, and he looks very similar, except he is much more shabby, and has reddish-brown streaks in his hair, instead of all white. He is also ten times as kind.
Any ideas?
@folith-feolin I know you’re good at this XD“Everything is a mountain”
January 23, 2023 at 1:09 pm #129733Aadesh – an Indian name meaning command
Marlon – an old french name meaning little hawk
Skipp – an old Norse name meaning ship owner
Ronan – mighty
Gadhra – Irish name meaning mastiff (a mastiff is a large strong dog one of my Dads coworkers breeds them and apparently they are good hunting dogs (they’re also expensive))
Stanislas -Slavic name meaning military glory
I can find more if you want to but I have a makeup morgue to make for Drama class at the moment
January 23, 2023 at 10:32 pm #129820All I can think of when I think of an evil uncle is Uncle Andrew, but I did find one name. Caerwyn or Carwyn- Irish and Welsh origin, means ‘white fortress’. An identical name is Cadewyn, which means ‘white battle’.
You could also maybe mix up the letters of Reu or foil or some other key word to get a name.“Nothing says autumn like slurpin’ apples.” -my uncle
January 29, 2023 at 3:37 pm #130500Here’s a weird one…
My co-author ( @landric )and I are big on vivid descriptions of meals, and we’ve just realized that because our WIP takes place in a fake world, Brussels’s sprouts can’t be called “Brussels’s sprouts”, because that would imply that they’re from Brussels, and Brussels doesn’t exist in this world.
So, uh, anybody have a name for Brussels sprouts?

January 30, 2023 at 7:43 pm #130770Maybe you could call them cabbage sprouts?

January 30, 2023 at 7:59 pm #130774I was wondering if you people could help me name another alien character from my comic.
He’s kinda tall, has four arms, and green skin and blue-green hair. He works as a mechanic and wears goggles and often soot-stained clothes. His personality is friendly and fun but also kinda weird. He often makes really bad puns and dad jokes. He also has a little pink slime monster pet who follows him around and helps him hold tools when he’s working. That lil guy needs a name too.
Any ideas?
