October and November Themes

Ellohay Ingdomkay Enpay!

Here is your friendly reminder on the monthly writing themes coming up for Kingdom Pen.

October Theme Post Graphic

This month we would like to post articles on gore and Darkness. No, we don’t want you sending us excessively gory and dark articles; rather, this month we would like to discuss where the line is. How much is too much? How dark is too dark? How much gore is too much?

We can’t wait to read what you have to say on this subject!

We are also including November’s theme in this update because we have changed it. Rather than dialogue, we would like to feature articles related to National Novel Writing Month. Have you attempted or completed NaNoWriMo before? What are some tips you could give to others attempting to make the feat?

November Theme Blank

We would love to be able to publish a bunch of encouraging articles concerning NaNo during the month of November to help inspire the Kingdom Pen community to persevere in their noble quest to write an entire novel in one month!

So if you have some advice, tips, or encouragement concerning NaNo, write those up and send those articles to us ASAP! This will ensure that we will be able to them scheduled in time for November to provide aid to Kingdom Pen’s writing warriors.

We can’t wait to read your submissions!

Theme of The Month: July

Hello Kingdom Pen! It is a new month and that means a new writing theme! This month is warfare in writing.

July Theme BlankIf you write adventure novels, odds are, there is going to be some combat. This month is dedicated to articles focusing on this subject matter.

To give you some ideas for articles you could write:

  • How do you write a fight scene
  • What is the deal with military hierarchy?
  • Equipment, weapons, logistics
  • Common mistakes
  • Ethics of warfare

Can’t wait to read your submissions!

For those of you that still have submissions waiting to be published, we will try to get all of those published this month as well!

Get Published: Writing Themes

Since Kingdom Pen was created over four years ago, we have always accepted articles, poems, and short story submissions for publication in the eMag and on our website. Pretty soon, we will also begin accepting submissions for serial novels to be published on our website, which we can’t wait to begin! (More details coming soon!)

In the meantime, I also want to make you aware of another new development here at Kingdom Pen. In the past, we have accepted article submissions without much focus. However, we will now have a writing theme for each month, where the majority of the articles for a particular month will focus on a single topic.

This doesn’t mean that we won’t publish an article if it is written on a topic differing from our monthly theme, but the topic of the month will take precedent. This change will not affect poetry or short story submissions; only articles.

Perhaps you are now wondering what the theme is for this month, March? Well, while Kingdom Pen certainly doesn’t advocate falling into line with the traditions of our culture, we have decided to play along this time. March, in case you didn’t know, is Women’s History Month! Therefore, this month’s topic: Female Characters.

We are living in unique times, and in the world of story, there is much debate over how female characters should be portrayed, whether they be in novels, films, or even video games. We have all heard the culture’s cry that we need more “strong” female protagonists, and that the “Damsel In Distress” trope should die a horrible and painful death, but what should our mindset be as Christians? How should we confront the increasingly popular example of women warriors, and women in the military?

Controversy aside, this month’s writing theme could be taken in other directions as well. Just how does one write from the perspective of a female protagonist if one is male? Is not the female creature supposed to be an unfathomable well of unknown depths and mysterious mystery?

We hope you find this topic as fascinating as we do, and we look forward to your submissions and sharing them here on our website!

We have also created topics for the other months of this year, although these topics are subject to change. Let us know what you think. What topics would you like to see receive a month of devotion?
