How to start drawing? Well, in answer to your question, the best way to start drawing it to draw. Yes, very simple, but it’s true. You learn by doing it, just like writing. However, I’ll give a bit more pointers than just that. 😛
First, I find it imperative to find the basic shapes from which I’m drawing. Always lightly draw out the basic shapes. An apple is a circle. A tree is usually two parallel lines. A face is an ovalish thing. A nose, a triangle. Eyes are more ovals. From there, you can always move on to the extra details.
Another thing to keep in mind is proportion, where everything is compared to something else. In a face, the eyes are always in the middle. The tips of the ears are on the same plane as the eyes, and the bottoms of the ear are in the same line as the bottom of the nose.
But the most important thing is to really just draw. It can be anything. A guitar. A pencil. A book. A tree…there are too many things for me to put down here, so yeah, draw anything. 😛 If you want to find out more about the basic shapes, some more of the juvenile How to Draw… books have good basic pointers.

@that_writer_girl_99 Another thing is to always study. Everywhere you go, everyone you see. Just study it. What shape is that person’s eyes? How far away from the nose is the mouth? Most sidewalks are cracked. A lot of trees have oddly shaped branches. How tall compared to a human is a park bench? People’s elbows are places right where their waist is.
Then apply what you see to how you draw. And as @dragon-snapper said, just draw. A lot. Don’t get frustrated if something doesn’t turn out the way you want it to; you’ll get better and better the more you do it. 🙂

@f5a8c3e92 I started drawing Halle a while back, guess I forgot to mention it? Anyway it’s not as beautiful as @i-j-anderson ‘s rendition but I thought you’d like to see it all the same ;P
(Sry it seems I forgot the scar >.< whoops! and, eh, slightly pointed ears. Hm. Guess I tuned that part out ;P)
